My interest is in tracing the descendants of a Bridget Ellen Forde who married a Keaveney early 20th century. Bridget Ellen Forde was possibly the daughter of Michael Forde and Anne Dolan from Ballinaglera. Thank you

    Hi,

    Thank you for your message.

Do you have any other information that you can share? Information such as:

    • More specific dates, such as date of birth, marriage etc.
    • What religion was Bridget?
    • Did she emigrate, if so what do you know about her emigration?
    • Did she have any children that would have remained in Ireland?

Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Emma

Thank you for your comments of 23 April 2013. According to the Rootsireland record, Bridget Ellen was born at Tullynahaia, Ballinaglera on 28 Dec 1887 to Michael Forde, farmer and Ann Dolan. I also have a Rootsireland record of Marriage which shows a Bridget Ellen Forde of Modoragha married a John Keaveney of Corratimore on 18 Feb 1918. It shows Bridget's father as Michael Forde, farmer (deceased) and John's father as James, farmer (living). They were married in the Drumkeeran RC Church. The Bridget Ellen I am looking for was living at Tullynahaia, (Drumreilly West, Leitrim) on the 1901 Census so am not sure why Bridget would have been living at Modoragha. Her mother had died before the 1901 census.

I have a death certificate of a Bridget Keavney who died 12 Sep 1969 at Corratimore. She was an 82 year old widow of James Keavney, farmer. The informant was John J. Keavney, her son, who was present at her death Corratimore. I am not sure whether this is the same lady because the marriage record says her husband was John.

Also, I have Rootsireland records of two children born to a John Keaveney (farmer) and Bridget Ellen Forde of Corratimore who were registered in the Dromahaire Civil Registration District. They are James Michael Keaveney who was born 11 Nov 1918 and Mary Ann who was born 3 Nov 1918.

I have looked on the 1901 census and there are brothers John and James Keaveny who are living at Corratimore Glebe (Garvagh, Leitrim).  I hope someone may recognize some of these people.

    Thank You, Marie.

  • Regarding Mary Ann Keaveney: Her date of birth was 3 Dec 1919, not 3 Nov 1918.

  • Hello,

I am an ancestor to the Keaveny/Keaveney's of County Leitrim. My great grandmother was Anne Keaveny, who was born in Dromahaire, Leitrim. I have a copy of her original birth certificate, which dates her birth on 29 June, 1887, to Anne Coyle and Thomas Kaveny living in Killavoggy.

I am trying to piece together the family before everyone scattered to the United States. I too found a census from 1901 for Anne Keavny, a widow, and her six children. I believe this is my great great grandmother, along with my great grandmother (Anne) and her siblings, who are Mary, James, Bridget, Catherine and John. Anne's husband Thomas died 24 May 1900, from what I have gathered off of rootsireland. I have records of the girls in America, but nothing yet on James and John.

There were two Keavny families living at Corratimore Gleb, Garvagh on the 1901 census. House 17 is Anne, my relative. House 18 shows Patrick and Catherine, with five children. I have also been able to get info on some of these relatives in America as well.

What is difficult is that there are many relatives of the family with the same names. There are lots of Annes, Bridgets and Johns, which makes it hard.

I would love to find more information on who stayed in Ireland from these two families, and if there are any relatives alive that I could get into contact with.

  • Hello,

I have spent a few hours trying to make some sense of the Keaveney families in Corratimore and can see the remains of your family in house 17, Anne 64, son James and son John. I am still not sure where my James and John fit in. I do know that a Bridget Ellen Forde married a John (born abt 1881) whose father was James. The witness was also a John Keaveney. I am looking for the descendants of this family and believe this is the best chance of my sorting out my Keaveneys.

There is also a Patrick Keaveny, wife Anne and children John, Mary A and James on the 1911 census in house 18 at Corratimore Glebe (Garvagh), but I can't find this family on the 1901 census. This Patrick's wife is Anne as opposed to the Patrick with wife Catherine in house 18 on the 1901 census.

There is a James Keaveny in the Townland of 'Killabogy' on the Tithe Applotment Books in 1834 and a Bryan Kevanny on Griffiths in Killavoggy.

If there are any descendants still in Ireland, let's hope they see our messages. I wonder if any of them came to Australia.

  • Hi Joe,

I am interested to know if Patrick Keaveny was a brother to Thomas who lived in house number 17. I have not been able to trace Thomas's (who was my great, great grandfather) parents and siblings. It would be great to figure this piece out! You can email me directly at jrakip12@gmail.com.

  • Hi Jess

The information I have is that my great grandfather Patrick Keaveny (1852 - 1927) had two brothers...James and Thomas. I have no info on Thomas I'm afraid. I know that James married a Mary Harte and they had a son James and daughter Mary, both immigrated to Fitchburg, MA.
Patrick, James and Thomas' father was James Keaveny and their mother was a Cullen (first name unknown).
Marie M...please contact me at joekeaveny@yahoo.com regarding Bridget Ellen Keaveny (nee Forde). According to my info her husband was JOHN Keaveny.
