My gr grandfather, Charles Dunne,  1839-1923 married  Elizabeth Middleton (maybe from Sligo) 1857-1899 at the parish church Killanummery, Leitrim 09/27/1882.  They had 7 children, 3 boys, 2 came to US, last died as young boy, and 4 girls 2 came to US, 2 no info at all, 1 on 1911 census, but then disappears.

Per family,  Charle's father was ROBIN, but marriage cert says ROBERT.  And ROBERT shows up on Griffiths.

A family member who went back to Leitrim says this family is the same Dunnes as the Dunnes from Edergole/Edengole/Addergole.  I'm not convinced.     In 1901 there was a Thomas Dunne family there.  My family is from Mullagh and the other is Mullaghdoo.  Are these the same places?   Charles pension records says next of kin is brother Thomas.

Any help please.

Thanks,

AnneMarie Dunne George

    Hi AnneMarie,

    Mullagh and Mullaghdoo are both townlands in Co. Leitrim. There are actually two Mullaghs-one in Annaduff civil parish and the other in Drumlease civil parish. A useful website whren it comes to Irish place names is http://www.logainm.ie/

    Here is a link to a map showing the civil parishes in Co. Leitrim:

  • Hi Emma;

    Thanks for the information.  Lookng at the map, I see these areas are not even adjacent.  Now I know these are 2 separate families and don't need to try and make them connect yet.  I know my family is from Drumahaire, Drumlease.

    I just applied for my passport today and if all goes as I am planning, this time next year, I hope to be visiting Leitrim and Fermanagh and anywhere else I can get in a month!

    thanks again

    I'm delighted to hear that you will be visiting next year! It's great to be able to go back to your family's original place of origin, I hope you have a lovely time. :)

    Be sure to get in contact again before you visit to share your plans..hopefully we may be able to set you up with a volunteer in those areas who will be able to assist you during your stay.

    All the best,

    Emma

  • Emma;

    I've tried to send this 3 times and it seems like it disappears every time.

    I will be arriving in Shannon 09/25/2013 and staying in Manorhamilton for a month.  I will be renting a car for the duration and plan on traveling the whole country.

    My grandfather was born in Dromahair and I want to see around there, and also I believe my gr grandparents are buried in the church yard at the Presbyterian church at Drumlease.  And through my gr grandmother, I am related to Yeats, so I want to go to Sligo also.

    Also, my grandmother is from Boho, Fermanagh and i have made contact with a cousin, si will be visiting there, also

    I will be starting my research at the Leitrim Genealogy Center and see what I can find to go along with the info I already have.

    Looking forward to traveling and visiting.  Any ideas, suggestions or thoughts?

    Thanks so much;
