Hello, I’ve been trying to track down family history. My great grandfather immigrated to the us in 1906 his last known home was in drumharkan. I was wondering what might have happened to his parents that he lived with and where they may have come from before drumharkan or if they were from the area any help would be greatly appreciated thank you for taking the time to read my message.

  • Taylor,

What was your great-grandfather's first name? Approx. year of birth?

    Any siblings? Names?

    Parents' names?

    Children, in order.

    Where did he emigrate to?

Reilly is an extremely common name, so anything you can provide will help narrow the search.

  • His name was Francis Joseph Reilly. He was born dec. 1885. His fathers name was also Francis I’m unsure of a middle name. His mothers name was Catherine maiden name is unknown. His siblings are Mary, John, Thomas, Lizzie and Bernard. My great grandfather ended up in New York where he started out as a laborer doing construction and eventually became a fire fighter. He and his wife Mary, both are buried in queens. Thank you very much for reaching out to me. I appreciate it a lot.

  • Yes that’s them. I found them on the 1901 census and the 1911 I was trying to see if anybody was still in the area or what happened to them a little is known about our family history especially in Ireland.

  • Perhaps if you email the Fenagh Visitor Centre, they might direct you to someone who might know...

  • Hi Taylor,

I just asked my husband as he comes from Drumharkan.  Coincidence! He said his grandmother and father came to live there in 1932 and Reillys owned it before them.  He remembers his Dad telling him that.  There are currently no other Reillys living in the townland of Drumdarkan but they could be living elsewhere. If you want any further information about the area let me know. There are some lovely lakes nearby that my husband would fish in and it's very close to Fenagh Abbey/graveyard if you want to look it up. The parents probably are buried in Fenagh graveyard beside the Abbey.  I could have a look for you if you wish sometime.

    Kind Regards, Grainne
