Catherine (Katie) Roddy was born in 1860 and baptised in Oughteragh on New Year's Day 1861. Her parents were Patrick and Catherine (nee Prior). Her siblings included Michael, Bridget (b 1864) and a brother with the initial J (name unknown). All three children migrated to New South Wales which was where Katie met her husband, Patrick McAleer (1854-1939) who had come from from Cookstown, Tyrone.
They were married in Broken Hill, NSW in 1889. After their first child, Kathleen was born (1891), the family settled in rural Western Australia where Charles (1894), James (1895) and Rose (1897) were all born. Katie died in 1911 aged only 50 and is buried at Lawlers, in a remote part of the Eastern Goldfields.
Any details of the Roddy family, past and present, in the Ballinamore area would be very much appreciated. Three of Katie's great great grandchildren are my grandchildren.
Thanks

Hi Brendan
Thanks very much for the extra details you supplied. I've emailed them to a Roddy descendant who lives interstate from me. She may do some further research on the family as a result. If nothing else, I've made her aware of this website.
Cheers
John

Hi John,
I believe Margaret married in Ireland.

I know this post is three years old and counting. I just wanted to say that my ggg grandmother was Margaret Rody/Roddy. She married Thomas Flynn, my ggg grandfather. I don't know exactly where and when Margaret was born. I assume she was born 1800-1810, as she gave birth to my gg grandfather in 1825. I do know that her children were born in Drumcarra, Fenagh, Leitrim. I am interested in learning more about her family, especially since the Roddy name is associated with the Fenagh Abbey. I have no idea whether your Roddys and my Roddys are related though.

3 years on and I'll add my information. My GG grandfather was Peter Roddy from Leitrim, he migrated to Australia in 1857 on the Morning Light. His parents were John and Mary - he married Bridget Ryan who came from Dublin, she migrated with her parents Michael and Catherine. As far as I am aware they settled in Victoria, have been told many decades ago we had relations in WA. Peter and Bridget had 12 children. Would not be surprised if Patrick and John Roddy may have been related. Early family years spent in Gaffneys Creek, Victoria for the 12 children. My grandfather Ted, acquired a Soldier Settlement in Tumut, NSW - where majority of his family have grown, still many remaining there. Was my childhood area, however I now live in Brisbane, Qld. Australia
