I'm looking for any connection of my WOOD family .

Parents James WOODS & Ann HALES m 1823 CAVAN

They had a total of 10 children  7 were b Dernaweel Killashandra Cavan . I'm descended from Robert Wood b Feb 1837 Dernaweel d 1923 Glen Innes Nsw

3 children's birth were registered Carrigallen Presbyterian Leitrim. They were ;

William b 1835  William I believe married Anne LATIMER also b Leitrim bc 1835 father William according to their marriage on 27 Feb 1867  Reg Mohill Leitrim.  I also believe both William & Anne both died in Leitrim . William abt 1911 as he was still on 1911 census living house No 4 Drumgunny Carrigallen West also with Anne. I have a guessamation she may have died 1916 .

Elizabeth b 10 Dec 1843

David Sept 1840

I have bap records for the 3 bap Leitrim, that's how I know where they were bap.

I have not been able to find out anything in regards to David & Elizabeth.

Any help or advise greatly appreciated.

  • Col,

    Once again, thankyou I did have that as his death (hoping it was right ) but it was listed as 4th quarter, you found a date.

    That may not be her as that would make her being b 1838 & you found her bap 1834

  • Rae,

    I wonder if James Wood came from Scotland. According to the Scottish records he was born on 22 May 1798 in Kinneff parish, Kincardineshire, the son of Andrew Wood (b 1775) and his wife Jane Mollyson. I am a direct descendent of AW and JM. There has been talk in the family of an Irish connection but I have never been able to trace it. If this is right I can take you back three more generations to 1685. (I have tried to post you something on Rootschat but not sure if you are still connected.)

  • JRW,

    That's a very interesting thought , you may be right but I do how ever have a bap record for a James Woods with parents Andrew & Jane . I will go onto Roots Chat & have a look . How do we move forward with new line of connection. He is buried somewhere in Cavan as well as Ann but for the life of me I can't find out where.

    My email addy is ryanbrisi4@bigpond.com , maybe we can communicate thru email quicker & easier.

    Where are you located ? I'm in Warwick Qld Aust.
