I was wondering if anyone could tell me how I would find out if I still have family living in Ireland. My great grandfather had 9 siblings, what I dont know is did they all leave Ireland like my great grandfather did. How do I find out if they all came to the U.S or stayed in Ireland. My great great grandparents were Patrick McHugh and Ann Conway, married feb 13, 1877 there children

James born 1878, Francis(1880), Patrick(1882) my greatgrandfather who came to Boston, Mass in 1909 aboard the Saxonia, He married Mary O'Rourke in 1913 in NY. Michael(1884), Peter(1886), Roseanne(1888), John(1889), Bridget Maria(1891), Thomas(1893), Bernard(1896). They lived in Corriga, and were part of the Cloone parish. Thanks for any help. Lisa

  • Lisa:

McHugh is a very common surname in Co. Leitrim which will complicate your search.

I looked at the online Irish phone book.  http://www.eircomphonebook.ie/

Not all phone numbers are in the book. There are a number of McHughs listed but none showing Corriga. There are a few in Cloone.

You can also e-mail the church ( see July 6th link I sent you) to see if they can help.

  • Hi Lisa,

The 1911census shows a McHugh family living in Corriga. I noticed similar first names in both this and your famiies.

    http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/

You could then search for births, deaths and marriages for the Corriga family https://familysearch.org/ At least this way you could potentially track down this family through civil registration records.

  • Hi Lisa,
I am Roseanne's great-granddaughter. I have been looking you or rather the American wing for many years.:)
There are still a few off us at 'home'.
We can arrange to communicate by email if it helps.
