Peter Kimy or Kimmy or Kimmey was registered in the 1790 United States Census in Allegheny County Pennsylvania. Soon thereafter moved to Crawford County Pennsylvania. After marriage his second oldest son moved just north to Erie County. With his knowledge and parent talking about the family there was an article published in the Erie County Newspaper which included this brief information. In 1786 Peter Kimmy, born in County Kilkenny, at the age of 16 came to America. Therefore born 1770.
He was born so long ago and I have no idea what his sur name would have been in Ireland. But I am hoping for a miracle that someone can find his parents.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find a Peter Kimy/Kimmy baptismal record anywhere in Ireland in the 1700s. Only a few RC parishes have records back to the late 18th century. Peter could have been Church of Ireland and Roots Ireland only has records with one C of I parish back to 1770.
I tried the Tithe listings from the 1820s/1830s just to see if there was any evidence of Kimy/Kimmy records in Kilkenny. None for Kilkenny but did find a Peter Kimy record in Co. Wexford in 1833.

Have you tested your DNA?

Roger,
Thanks for all your checking! I did test my DNA but it is not very helpful. At least you found one Kimy name.
Georgina
Thanks again for your help Roger! I think nothing more will be found because there are no records as early as 1770.

Is it possible the surname was Kemmy rather than Kimy, Kimmy etc?

Thanks for youur reply Nuala! Kemmy could very well be the surname as it was in Ireland. The second son of Peter in Pennsylvania USA was James, his first son was William. Robert who gave first reply found one Peter Kimy in County Wexford but that was in 1833. It could be a descendant of some of the family who remained in Ireland. Perhaps I should also try to post in that County if I can figure out how. But the family had County Kilkenny in their little family history. From the history it seems that he came to America alone. It is most likely too lone ago to fine any Emigration records.

Following Nuala's suggestion, there were five Kemmy records in the Tithes. They lived in Laois, Offaly and Tipperary.

The earliest Kemmy baptismal record in Roots Ireland was in 1821 in Co. Laois.

I went through the same thing with family lore. It’s wrong. We were always told we were from Kerry. Through DNA testing I found other families with their 2x grandparents listed on their tree. It took a lot of piecing together and I found the family in Kilkenny. Not only that, but two brothers lived near each other in N.Y. My DNA cousins had their family coming from Cork! Then on a death certificate, my 2x grandfather was listed as Patrick. His name was James.
It took quite awhile and looking at indexing spelling mistakes and priests spelling the name incorrectly and finally the search has ended. I hope some of your DNA cousins show up.
