Hello.  I am looking for my Irish family named Sullivan.  Not an easy task!  My research leads me to beleive that my John Sullivan was in the 49th Regiment.  His enlistment papers state that the was born in the parish of Killarney, County Kerry.   John rejoined the 99th Regiment at some stage and accompanied convicts to Australia.  He died at Australia's famous Port Arthur Convict Settlement as is buried on the Isle of the Dead (this makes him a mini celebrity in Australia!)  His wife's name was Catherine, and their son John Jnr was born in Ireland in 1848, but I've not found birth details for him.  I have done an Ancestry DNA test and am overwhelmingly Irish!  I would dearly love to find my family's true Irish roots if anyone could take the time to help!  Julie Sullivan

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

www.irishgenealogy.ie is a free Irish government site which has Co. Kerry church records. You can filter the search to focus on the Killarney records and as you likely know there are may Sullivans and O'Sullivans in that parish. I searched 1846-1850 in Killarney records on that site and there were at least 10 John Sullivan baptismal records in Killarney but I did not see a record where the father was John and the mother was Catherine. You should search also in case I missed a record. In additon here is the parish register for Killarney. http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0675

Any other clues about the family and I assume you don't have Catherine's maiden name?
