Hi,
I am looking for information on the family of James Maher and Bridget Casey who were married in 1854 in St. John's Parish, Co. Kilkenny. I have found ten children born to them (through Rootsireland) between 1855 and 1875: Mary, Michael, Catherine, John, Anne, Elizabeth, Bridget, Margaret, Ellen and James. Most the the baptismal records indicate they were born in Cramersgrove/Creamersgrove, which was sometimes situated in St. John's Parish, sometimes in Tiscoffin Parish.
.James Maher died in 1885 in Cramersgrove, Tiscoffin Parish.
Bridget, the widow, appears in the 1901 and 1911 censuses in Cramersgrove, Kilkieran Parish, with four children, John, Bridget, Ellen and James, all unmarried. The widow Bridget may have died in 1913.
I believe that the daughter Elizabeth is my husband's ancestor. She immigrated to New York City circa 1883. Any information that corroborates or disproves this relationship would be welcome, as would any information on the the family.
Thank you,
Barbara

Hi Barbara
I have just discovered this website, and reading through some of the posts and thought I would share my knowledge with you. We may not be connected but there are a few similarities. MY 2G grandfather was born in Kilkenny Ireland in 1928. His parents were John and Elizabeth Casey nee Dalton and it is the parents we are trying to get information on. Robert was baptized in the same parish as Bridgets children, only a lot earlier
Grove. Parish St Johns, Kilkenny, Ireland 13/8
Father John, Mother Elizabeth Dawton Sponsors Edmund & Catherine Healy Note: mother given as Betty Denominatiom Roman Catholic.
I am not sure if you are aware of this but Cramersgrove is sometimes called Grove.
Robert was married to Mary Moran in June 1854 and came to Australia in Dec 1854.
I have noticed that six of his children have the same names as Bridget’s (our Maria to your Mary).
There is a large time gap between the birth of these two so we feel that there is more siblings who probably did not come to Australia.
We are aware of one sister to Robert, Maria, who was born in 1836. Both Maria also came to Australia and married into the Dickenson family.
My sister believes there was also an Elizabeth and Anne. From the Baptismal information it may be that Catherine Healy is another sister.
Maybe Bridget is connected, or maybe not. It would be nice to know. I tried to post this earlier but it appears it did not work. Computer Technology is not my best subject

Hi Bel,
I looked over your information and compared it to the records available at RootsIreland and find Robert (1828) and Anne (1840) born to John and Elizabeth nee Dawton while Mary (1834) and Elizabeth (1837) where born to John and Elizabeth nee Dalton, all these in St. John's parish (I did not look at the extracts, only the index). All this fits what you said. There is certainly room for Bridget Casey to have been born in this family and her baptism may indeed be among the "some missing" church records of 1830-1842 for St. John's. It was such a small place it is very likely they were from the same family. Thanks so much for the hint! Maybe one day, we will know for sure.

Hi Barbera
I have emailed you previously and now believe the link between our families have strengthened.
I was just chatting with my sister and found that our Robert Casey(son of John and Elizabeth) and wife, Mary (Moran) were married in 1854, (I may have mentioned that before). What I did not know previously was that the witnesses were Anne Casey and John Maher.
All the best

Hi Bel,
Thanks for the latest tip. I just checked the Bridget Casey-James Maher marriage record (1854) and their witnesses were William Brennan and Bridget Dalton. We will just keep chipping away....

Hi Barbara
jsut sending out a bit of a call for help. You posted this information to me some time ago.

My sister is on Roots Ireland and has searched for this information and we cannot find it. I wonder if you have any information that may help us. I do realize there is a lot of information missing from Ireland, but our people were married about 10 years later, and we do have John Casey's baptism. I do hope you are having a lot better luck and forging forward in your search.

Hi Bel,
I tried to attach some screenshot photos, but no go. I will describe the search steps.
Do a RootsIreland search for surname Casey, select baptisms, refine search by adding father's and mother's given names, narrowing the date range (I used 1835 +/- 10 years) and checking the Kilkenny box. You will get four childen listed if you open the page. To further refine the search, click on the magnifying glass at the right of one of the children's names. This takes you to the County Kilkenny site. Choose St. John's parish RC from the dropdown list. Add a child's given name and the mother's surname. Now you have got the most information you can get until you pay for the record for any additional details. This works because you already knew so much information.
