My ancestor Eliza REDDY was born around 1849 to Martin REDDY and Alice QUIGLY at Rathclough, Co Kilkenny.

I believe Martin and Alice married in 1836.  The other children born before Eliza were:

Thomas REDDY b. 1841, James REDDY b. 18 and Margaret REDDY b. 1846.

I recently found that Martin and Alice died within one day of each other in May 1883.  At this time they were still living in Rathclough and the informant on their deaths was a daughter-in-law called Margaret.

Thomas and Eliza both emigrated to Australia.  Eliza married Michael DARCEY in Toowoomba Australia in 1870.

I found a possible marriage of James REDDY to a Margaret HEARNE in Dunamaggin in 1866.

  • Hello!  I was interested in your query about Reddy and Quigley from Danesfort Co Kilkenny.  Just up the road in Bagenalstown, Co Carlow were my Reddy family with so many similar names.  i'm wondering if there's a connection?  I'm descended from James Reddy whose brother Patrick had a son Martin b. 1828.  Makes him too young to marry in 1836 (8 yrs!!)  and to have his first child in 1841 (13 yrs!!)  but I'm wondering if perhaps James and Patrick may have had another brother who also had a son Martin.  Anyway 4 of James' children settled in Australia, SE Qld.  I'm in Brisbane if you're interested to explore this further.  Are you in Australia?  my email marymmross@hotmail.com.  Look forward to hearing from you!

  • Do you have any Reddy relatives from Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny?  My Great Grandfather Kieran/Kyran Reddy Born 23/11/1875 in Ballyroe, Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny he married Kate/Catherine Murphy Born 1875 - Married 12/10/1902 and they lived all their married life in Dangan, Thomastown. Kieran's father was Thomas Reddy, Born 1845 - Died 12/3/1909 Kilfane, Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny he married Anne Tierney 6/8/1865 Tullaheirn, Thomastown. I think Thomas Reddy's father was Kyran but I don't know when or where. Danesfort is not very far from Thomastown so thought I'd ask.

  • Good morning,

I am looking for a link between my Reddys and Kikenny

.My 2nd greatgrandfather was Richard Reddy (1817-1865).  He came to America with his brother Michael (1818-1869) and settled in West Hurley, NY.  I believe they may have been from Kilkenny as many of the immigrants in West Hurley were from the southern part of the county.  Richard married Eliza Carey (1834-1903) in West Hurley c. 1855.  I am hoping I find that Eliza came from Kilkenny as well.

If this looks familiar, please be in touch here.

As an added note of interest - we have a family history of Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD).  Richard's daughter Julia had it, passed it on to her son James, who passed it to his son James, my father, who passed it on to me.  PKD is middle -aged onset disease.  Given Richard's death date, he may have had it as well. I am especially interested in being in contact with others who have PKD.

  • Dear amoneill

Richard and Michael are not familiar to me.  It's so unfortunate that US BMDs only usually say Ireland as place of origin.  Luckily for me in Australia, the fact that they put their place of origin on these certificates has been a godsend for me.

I am descended also from a Carey - in Co Westmeath.

    regards,

    Karen.
