I am looking for any information regarding the family of Daniel Sullivan and Bridget Hackett.   I have no birth records for either of them but they were married in County Kilkenny on September 5, 1787.

Their chidren were:

Michael Sullivan was born in 1783 and presumably died prior to 1787

Daniel Sullivan born 1784 (a member of the 13th Regiment of Dragoons in 1811)

Michael Sullivan born 1787 and emigrated to Newfoundland in 1811

John Sullivan born 1790

Tobias Sullivan born 1793.

I would appreciate knowing anything more about this family as I have run into a complete dead end in finding more information.   Thank you.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I assume you found the years of birth on Roots Ireland since they have records on Thomastown RC parish back to 1782. The births of the parents were prior to 1782 so I don't think you will locate their baptismal information.

You may want to use Roots to see if you can locate marriages of the Sullivan children who may have stayed in the area.

I also checked the Tithes listings www.titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie  There were 50 Sullivan entries in Co. Kilkenny but none in Thomastown parish.

  • I am re-beginning my search for the Sullivan family in Thomastown, County Kilkenny.

I have the names as previously shown in my 2014 post for the children of Daniel Sullivan and Bridget Hackett.   I have not been able to find birth or marriage information for Daniel Sullivan and Bridget Hackett.  Recent research has shown another John Sullivan who was presumably born the same year as Tobias, and again with the same parents, so that just adds even more confusion.

My direct line is through Michael Sullivan, born 1787  (He married Mary McDaniel in 1814 in St. Johns, Newfoundland.   I do not have any records of Mary McDaniel prior to their marriage..   Michael Sullivan emigrated to Newfoundland and from there to British Columbia, Canada.   I was able to find his emigration to Canada records as he was on a ship where the captain was taken to court for more or less starving the passengers.

If anyone has any information, I would really look forward to hearing from you.
