hello.

I would like to find out as much info as  possible on my G'Mother Winifred Fahey. She married a Thomas Doherty from Coolacussane in the Church of Lorrha in Terryglass 12/08/1914, withness's at the wedding were a Michael Lavell and Bridget Nevin. Winifred's Father was Patrick her Mother was Cathrine (nee Meara) I believe Patrick's Dad was a Michael and Catherine's was Denis. Winifred had a brother named James (known to our family as Uncle Jim who moved to the U.S and owned some bars there). Her other brothers were Michael, John and Joseph. Her sisters were, Mary, Anne, Kathleen, Bridget and Margaret. They are recorded in the 1901 census as living in house 20 Ballyquirke Lorrha West.

Any information would be of great help.

  • Hello Gerry,

you don't seem to have posted this message in Lorrha - or Terryglass. I would do that as there is an active group in both parishes.

And the headstones in Terryglass have been read recently -- there are posted on www.historicgraves.ie.

p.s. I live in Portumna, east Galway, a few miles from both Lorrha and Terryglass in Co. Tipperary (just divided by the river Shannon!).

  • Morning Dolores.

Many thanks for your info I just posted on the Borrisokane site and will see what comes back from there. I have checked the on line research for the graves in Terryglass and there are alot of "Meara's" there who are on my Great Grans side. I have a nephew who lives in Silvermines and I was there last weekend and we visited the Terryglass grave yard, what a beautful village. As Tipp is obviously an area I don't know, I'm just trying to figure out where the Doherty's from Coolacussane are buried as in the nearest cemetery.

Thanks again for all your help and enjoy you reunion.

    Gerry
