I am researching Peter Slavin (Great Grandfather) who was born 1862,his parents were Peter slevin and Mary Ward

Peter married in Glasgow 1888 and was RC. I am not sure which Parish  he came from in Donegal as I have found four Peter Slevins on Griffiths Valuation, two in Donaghmore, one in Goladoo,Donegal and one in Raphoe.

There may have  been an  Edward,  John,Catherine, Mary, Margaret,  as peter had children with these names.

His mother,Mary Ward was already deceased when Peter married in 1888,but his father was still living, his fathers is down as being a farmer.

I can,t find  a peter with these parents names on the marriage records, I know it was before civil records began.

I,d be very grateful if anyone recognises them in their own family tree, or can help in any way.

  • Hi Annie,

Have you tried RootsIreland at http://www.rootsireland.ie/?  This is the best website for checking both Civil and Chirch records in Donegal although it is by no means comprehensive.

I checked it and could find no marriage between a Peter Slavin and a Mary Ward.  Nor did I find any children born to this couple which one really should have expected unless Peter was the last child.

To muddy the waters, I did find a marriage between a John Slavin and a Mary Ward in 1878 and the following children born to that couple which does indeed contain the names you mentioned as possible siblind - but all about 20 years too late.

Have you used the Familysearch at https://familysearch.org/?  There are some interesting deaths for a Mary Slavin including this one for example:

    name:Mary Slavinregistration district:Stranorlarevent type:DEATHSregistration quarter and year:Jan - Mar 1885estimated birth year:1860age (at death):25volume number:2page number:263digital folder number:4200675

  • Hi Boyd

Thank you for your response, I had already looked at rootsireland and couldn,t find a marriage for Peter and Mary,I,m looking at the parishes I think they may be from and it looks like some didn,t keep parish records of the dates I,m looking for,so am now concentrating on deaths.

I wonder if those records you found are reatives?

I have been looking at the the family search site also, thanks for that record, its a good possibility.

I will let you know if I get any further, Many thanks!
