Hello, like most, I'm putting together my family tree and have found much information on Ancestry and even long lost relatives.  Am totally stuck at the moment though as I cannot find any records for Bernard or Brian Boyle born around 1831-34.  He is a great grandfather (x3 I think) and he had a number of children with Bridget Daly.  He possibly went off to the Boer War and never returned.  I would like to gather some more information on Bridget Daly, she eventually married and became a Connor but I cannot find any information on her parents.  Can anyone help.  I believe she lived in Crotta at some point but cannot find any records for her parents.  Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Susan

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I will alert our parish liaison for Tralee that you have posted a message. There are two Crotta townlands. One is in Kilflyn civil parish and the other in Kilfeighny civil parishes both parishes are to the northeast of Tralee.

www.irishgenealogy.ie is a free Irish government site which has Co. Kerry church records. You may want to check out the site.

  • Many thanks for responding so quickly. I look forward to hearing.

I have visited the Irish genealogy website, which has been helpful but couldn't find the info I was hoping for.

    Best regards,

  • Can you give us some more informatio Susan including what records you have found as this will help us not to duplicate what you have already done? Looking forward to hearing from you.

  • Hi Martine

For my 2nd g grandfather Brian or Bryan Boyle I have records related to my g grandfather John and grandfather Richard but I cannot find any record for Brian except his name on a marriage certificate for his son John where he is cited as a labourer and on the marriage certificate for his son Bernard where he is cited as a soldier. These records are from rhe Abbeydorney and Garrybawn parishes.  I cannot find any records for my 2nd great grandmother Bridget Daly except her name on the birth or baptism records and her subsequent marriage to  Patrick O'Connor. Not sure if she was ever married to Brian despite them having children together.

    Thanks and regards,

    Susan

  • Hi Susan, thanks for that information. Can you send us dates and/or links? The townlands are very important in the early records. But it has to be said that few of us are lucky enough to find records earlier than 1820. I did a free search on findmypast.ie for Boyle and there were only 5 returns none for Brian or Bernard http://search.findmypast.ie/search/ireland-records/military-service-and-conflict?lastname=boyle&keywordsplace=kerry

Have you made a list of the godparents of the children as sometimes this opens up possibilities as they are usually related to the family in some way.

Do let me know if any of this helps and any additional information you can give us will mean we can assist you more.

    With best wishes

    Martine

  • Thank you.  I have looked here over the years but haven't been terribly successful.  Found lots of relatives except my gg grandfather.

    Appreciate your response though.
