Hi there folks, can't believe that it's been nearly two years since our visit.....if there's anyone who sees this message and lives near to the Church in Causeway( St. John's?), I'd appreciate it if you could check the actual Church records for a couple of baptisms.....My great great grandmother, Hanora/Honora Long was baptized on August 31, 1836; her parents were listed as John Long and Ellen McCarthy....I believe that Hanora MAY have had a brother John Long and possibly another brother Jeremiah....I can find no baptism for John Long with parents John Long and Ellen McCathy but I did find a John Long, baptized on June 20, 1833 whose parents were John Long and Ellen Murphy....I also found the marriage of John Long and Ellen Murphy which occurred on February 8, 1832...Given the nature of the handwriting in original records, I think that it's worth checking the originals to see if either John's(1833) or Hanora's(1836) mother's name may have been transcribed in error....Murphy and McCarthy are pretty similar when handwritten.....I'm writing from Massachusetts so checking the records would be a tad difficult for me but if there's someone close by, I'd appreciate the help...

  • Hi Ed,

I believe there was only one Long family in Dromartin, I have seen this before, John married a widow Ellen Murphy, on her childrens baptism records her name was recorded with her correct maiden name. Hanora married an O'Donoghue.
