Missing Co. Kerry parish - "Firies?"

The name of the church is St. gertrudes in Firies. Firies or Fieries is in Kilnanare civil parish. Below is the address and two links regarding the church and a national school.

You can look up Kerry church records and find information on christenings and some marriages in Firies under Molahiffe parish. The local cemetery is also in Molahiffe townland. I also have relatives in that part of the county.

Glad folks were able to help you with Firies Parish. Some of Firies Catholic Parish was given over to the Parish of Fossa in the 1890s. Also could be wrong but I don't think the Tralagh you cite in the Baptismal records for your family refers to Tralee but to a local place or Townland in Firies Parish.

There is a Simon Noonan listed in the Griffith's Vauations for Co. Kerry. You should know and may have picked up from the baptismal records that some of the Noonan families in and around Firies parish were know interchangeably as Noonan and Neenan. My great grandmother, Mary Noonan (Mrs. Patrick Hickey), daughter of Cornelius Noonan and Honora Dwyer, of Barleymount West (now Fossa Parish), was baptized in Firies (though possibly at the church in Ballyhar) in 1863, died Brooklyn, NY, 1914.

That's not a concern at the moment, as that's quite a bit later then what I'm researching - but it might be handy for tracking descendents later; ty.

Yes, Edward - I believe - with the info I have so far, anyway -  that is the correct Simon, who would have been farming land not too far outside of what is now Tralee. I am still checking to be sure.

Perhaps you are correct; I will check further. I had assumed it was the same because of the Griffith's Valuations match, but it bears further investigation. Thank you! This website has been invaluable - I can't thank everyone involved enough.

I think you're right. Tralee (the capital of Co. Kerry) is apparently split between the St. John's and St. Brendan's parishes. Tralee isn't in the Kilnanare parish, it's in the Annagh parish, I believe. Perhaps someone from the area could clear this up for me? I may be having some confusion between parish areas & townships.

I think the confusion for me began because I saw Irish records that noted that the current capital, Tralee, was also written as Tralagh in some older records.

I'm wondering how to confirm that today's Tralia may have been Tralagh. On the map, it's about in the right area where the Griffith's Evaluation placed Noonan's leased farm area.

The baptism for Andrew is recorded in the Roman Catholic Parish of Firies.

His address is in the townland of Tralagh, not the town of Tralee.

The parishes listed in Griffith's Valuation are Civil Parishes..(taxation districts)
