I was wondering if anybody could assist me in my search to re-connect with family members. My grandfather on my dads side came from Castle Gregory in county Kerry ireland. His name was John Joseph Bailey and his father was Thomas Bailey. He had a sister who was married and became McCarthy by surname. The issue i'm having is that my grandfather left ireland and came to Newport Wales to help support his irish family financially so i live here in Wales. My name is Ryan Bailey and i'm 18 years old. The whole family were Roman Catholics and owned a cottage named Bailey Cottage, it was made into a tourist location however it was soon taken down after my aunty went searching there for a relative...I need a lot of help and i want to uncover anything i can ! Relatives may be around Dingle, Castle Gregory or even Killarney

here i have included a picture with the graves of my grandfathers closest family such as brothers sisters and parents. However if there was one who married as McCarthy then i am looking for great cousins and things.

Thank you all

Ryan Bailey

  • Hi Ryan

I can't find any records for any Bailey in Castlegregory, either in the church records or the census. When did your grandfather leave? What was your grandmothers name? maybe he married into the area? Ehat I did find online for Kerry was this

    http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/search.jsp?name2fm…

    and this

    http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/results.jsp?census_year=19…

I know there used to be a bar in Tralee called Baileys Corner and there is something at the back of my mind that there was a Castlegregory connection there.

Here's what I found for Bailey/McCarthy, in all of Ireland, amazingly ther are only 67 events!! If you had any more information maybe you could narrow things down for yourself.

    http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/search.jsp?namefm=…

Both of these sites are free you could if you have the time search just by entering Castlegregory and seeing what comes up in the thousands of entries. Sometimes spellings can be off and won't register when you search.

    BEST OF LUCK

    Sarah

  • Hi Ryan,

If you want to drop me a message I can help out...we are the Bailey's of Castle Gregory(although my part of the family now lives in Essex)

John Joseph Bailey was my Grandfathers brother.  Hopefully I can put you in touch with family members who can answer your questions.

    Many thanks
