  • Hi there,

Thank you very much for your query to Ireland Reaching Out. Have you looked for the marriage record of John and Mary? Check the General Register Office (GRO) for this. You already have a date and a location, so this should narrow down the search considerably, Thsi should give you the names of any witnesses and also maybe the name of parents.

You could also check the land records for additional information about them. These are called the Tithel Applotment Books (1823-38) and the later Griffth's Valuation (1848-64).

I hope this is of some help.

    Kind regards,

    Sinead Cooney

  • Hi I see you have a john O'Connor who married a Teahan

I am convinced that your John is my great grandfathers brother. Thomas Connor married Elizabeth Teahan on 1st Feb 1842

His parents were Timothy O'Connor and Joanna Clifford [Kevane from Father Luke in Castlemaine ] I did have the family on Kiltallagh page but where it went to I do not know. So here is what I have

    Children of above

Bridget b 31 Dec 1816 at Ballyfinnane  Castlemaine

    Ellen B 9th June 1820  at Ballyfinnane

    Thomas b 1822 at Ballyfinniane

    Bridget b 29th Feb 1824 at Duagh#

    Mary b 3 July 1826

    John b 1 July 1830 Kellea

There could have been more children to Timothy and Joanna

Thomas above married Elizabeth Teahan in Ballyfinnane 1 Feb 1842

    Children of above Thomas

    Mary O'Connor b 30 March 1846

Charles Teahan O'Connor b 1849 Gortshanovh Killentierna Parish from Rev FAther

    William O'Connor b22 Feb 1850 Duagh #

    Elizabeth O'Connor b 15 Feb 1852 Duagh#

    Murice O'Connor b 1854 [no birth found]

    Margaret O'Connor 13 April 1855 at Camp

Now the reason I have marked three chilldren is that on thesr churchrecords the parent of the childre aren Thomas Connor and Elizabeth Connor now that could be because that parish wrote it that way

    Catherine Connor b 26th March 1859 Gurraun .

NOw MAurice and CAtherine the two youngest went to New Zealand app 1879 as Maurice my great randfather married Mary  Francis Courtney [Cournane]

in parents MAry Bowler and JOhn Courtney

Mary was baptised at Caherciveen Co Kerry 20 /1/1858 I have seen this birthin CAherciveen

I cannot find Mary Courtneys parents after that date

I know you have some of these name also such as Timothy ?
