Any information please on Patrick Sheahan who was baptised on 12th March 1811 at ‘Roman Catholic, Killarney, Kerry, Ireland’ and his wife Mary Connor who was was baptised in February 1809 at ‘Roman Catholic, Currow, Kerry, Ireland’.

Patrick and Mary were married on the 25th February 1837 at ‘Currow Roman Catholic Church, County Kerry, Ireland’. I have another record suggesting it may have been 25th February 1838 and shows the witnessses as Cain Connor and John Barry (sheet 42 of the Killeentierna parish record book 1803-1884).

Patrick and Mary are my third great grandparents on my mothers side. They moved to London soon after they were married and they had nine children. After a generation the family name changed to Sheen.

Thanks

  • Greetings Trevor -

Coincidently, my g-g-grandparents Patrick Shahan (b abt 1820 but I haven't yet found that proof) and Mary Connor (b abt 1819 but I haven't found the birth or baptismal record yet) were married in Killeentierna Parish on 28 March, 1838.   Mary's parents were Cain Connor and Johanna Galvin.  I suspect the 2nd witness John Barry was related to Cain by marriage.   They lived in Kilsarcon.   I've connected through Ancestry DNA with some Galvin relatives and I believe Johanna Galivin's mother was a Hogan, but I've yet to come across a firm proof for that

They had four children in Ireland - Margaret, Cornelius, Johanna (my g-grandmother) and Patrick before emigrating to the US between 1851 and 1853.   They settled in Chillicothe, Ohio and had four more children: Mary, Timothy, Stephen and Julia.    They died and were buried in St. Margaret's cemetary in Chillicothe.    The name became Shane for the Ohio relatives

Johanna married Cornelius Dillon and they moved to Middletown, Ohio -- their daugher Cecilia Dillon was my grandmother

.I suspect the Sheahan/Sheehan name is fairly common in Kerry as is Connor.

    happy hunting
