Searching for documentation on the marraige of John Houlihan (b. about 1815) and Mary Dwyer (b. 1825 and likely daughter of John Dwyer and Mary Leahy), perhaps at St. Michael's Catholic Church. They had two children in Ireland before emigrating in 1849: Timothy (b. 1847) and John Jr.,(b. 1848-49.) They eventually ended up farming in Wabasha Co., MN, US, where they are buried.

  • Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I searched on the free Irish government site www.irishgenealogy.ie which has Co. Kerry church records and found one possible record for your family in the Sneem RC parish. See below. The online parish register shows some gaps in records which likely means you won't find a marriage record or the baptismal record for John.  https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0650

According to the index, there are no baptismal records from 1849 to late 1857 and marriage reocrds do not start until 1858. You could contact the church http://www.stmichaelschurchsneem.org/  and see if they have any additional records locally.

  • Thanks so much. This entry does indeed look like the correct family.
