My great great grandfather was Denis O'Connor who died in July of 1881 at the Dingle Workhouse which also had a hospital there at that time...

Years ago I wrote to the Hospital Administrator to see if I could determine the location of Denis' grave. Unfortunately, the records do not go back that far.

At the time of Denis' death, the family was living in Cloghane, near Castlegregory.

I wonder if Denis might be buried in the cemetery in Cloghane ?

Denis was a schoolmaster at the National School in Ballyquin which no longer exists.

Does anyone live close to Cloghane who could check the cemetery in the village?

  •  Hi Ed, I will have a look for someone who lives near the graveyard. This might take me a little while but I won't forget.

  • I have looked up birth and marraige records for Denis. I don't know if its any help to you. It might help locate other relatives. This is the page:

    http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/search.jsp?namefm=denis&namel=connor&location=castlegregory&dd=&mm=&yy=&submit=Search

There is also a website for graveyards but unfortunately it doesn't go that far back, the old and the new graveyard burials for Cloghane are in together. Its probably no use to you on this occasion but it might help with someone else:

Cloghane is under An Cloch?n and there is also another graveyard for the area, An Baile Dubh, An Daingean.

I don't have the number but if you look up O'Connors guesthouse in Cloghane, Mich?al the owner might be able to help. His uncle Matty is very good at 'going back' generations and the fact that Denis was the school teacher in Ballyguin is of great significance as Mich?al's father was the headmaster in Cloghane when I was in school. Hopefully they'll be able to help you or steer you in the right direction
