HI

I am looking for Treacy's/Traceys for the Tynagh Portumna area.  My ggfather was John Tracey and his father was Lawrence Tracey.  Lawrence was dead by 1877 when John married in Durham England.  Possible sibling names are Thomas, Michael or Patrick.  Thanks

  • Hi Sean, our volunteer has come back with the following information:

The priest in Tynagh has no record of this Treacy man.  He may be from Portumna.  Fr Bohan suggested that they contact Woodford Heritage Centre 353 (0)9097 49309 galwayroots@gmail.com  Monica Hynes there has all the Baptismal records for Woodford, Portumna, Tynagh, Killeen, Abbey and Duniry .  There is a small service fee but only nominal.

  • Sean,

I just came accross this old post. I hope that you will respond.

My Treacy Family comes from the Tynagh/Portumna area.

I doubt that Lawrence Treacy is in my particular Treacy Family, but there is a mentioned in the 1826 Tythe Applotments as living at Poultaloon, Tynagh.

In Griffiths Valuations there is a Nicholas Tracey occupying land at Carhoon, Tynagh, a John Tracey at Reaghan, Tynagh and a John Tracey at Cloonnacusha, Tynagh. There are many other Tracey/Treacy's in the area.Do any of these area sound familar?

Do you know Lawrence Tracey's wife's name, e.g. John Tracey's mother?

    Regards,

    Jim Treacy
