My great great grandmother Mary Robbins/Robins married Patrick Dooley at York, England on 7th July 1863. She gave her age at that time as 21 years and her father as Nicholas, a farmer.
In all the subsequent censuses she gave her birthplace as Galway, but her age varied over the years - sometimes quite considerably.
In 1861 Mary was living with her brother, Martin, in Derbyshire. In the 1891 census Martin gave his birthplace as "Holly Hill, Galway, Ire;land".
There is a marriage of a Nicholas Robins to Mary McDonagh at Tynagh on 1st February 1827 and I have found a death of a Nicholas Robbins in the Loughrea Registration District in 1868. It is possible that these two Nicholases are father and son.
I would very much like to find more informatio about the Robins/Robbins ancestors in my family.
Please, can anyone help?

Hi Clive
There are 4 baptism records of Mary Robins / Robbins 1843 + - 20 years in Galway on www.rootsireland.ie/; however when the father's first name Nicholas is added to the search criteria there are no matches. Same with mother's first & / or last name.

As 2 of the records are 1823 they could be discounted leaving 1 in 1845 and 1 in 1848 the latter being Mary Bridget.
The 1845 & 48 listings are both from Galway East; there is no Holly Hill in the list of parishes but there is Loughrea RC and that is where the 1845 Mary's baptism was registered.
It will cost a few Euro to view the full record which MAY have the parents' names - some do / some don't.
There is a record of Nicholas & Mary's marriage

There are 2 birth/baptisms of Martin Robins but not with the right parents or in Galway.
There are 24 public member trees on ancestry.com with a Mary Robbins with father Nicholas but her mother was Ann and she was born in the 1600's!!
There is a whatling tree with Martin Robbins + father Nicholas but no other details.

Hi Col,
Thanks for your reply and the information it contains.
I have subsequently found a marriage of Anne Robbins to John Forde on 26th January 1867 at Ballinasloe. Anne's father is shown as Nicholas and therefore Anne may be a sister to Mary.
Regards
Clive
