My G/G/Grandfather Stephen Phillips & His Wife Honora ( nee Hosty) came to Sydney Australia in 1853 to buid the railways along with many other familys from Tuam, Galway,Ireland.
From his Death certificate his parents were Michael & Mary (nee Connelly) & he was born around 1822.
He had gone to England and the 1851 census shows him in London. Honora ( Ann or Hannah) Hosty was also there at the same time.( her parents are believed to have originated from Tuam) They Married in 1852 in London.
Stephen had at least two younger sisters, Catherine & Ellen the latter married into the Kelly family.
I am keen to find out any detail relating to Birth /Marriage /christings/ death of the parents &/or Siblings certification would be great if possible.
Someone may know of a reliable researcher who could be of assistence. to us.Please have them e-mail or phone me.
My wife & I hope to be in Tuam in May 2015 and would appreciate being able to contact in person anyone who may be able to help.
Best Regards,
Rick Estella.

Hello Rick ! I too am searching for my greatgrandfather's family. His name was Michael Aloysius Phillips. On his marriage certificate it states that he was in the Royal Navy. In August, I visited the National Archive in Kew in London and found his naval record. When he joined in 1877 he was 18 years and 4 months old. This would mean he was born in August, 1859 .He gives his home address as Tuam, Co. Galway and his parents names as Thomas and Maria. I'm wondering if he was in any way related to your Phillips family. So far, I have failed to turn up any possibilities for him. He spent 5 years in the Royal Marines and left in December 1882. He married my greatgrandmother Ellen Reardon in Kinsale in 1881. (He appears to have been stationed there). On their wedding certificate he states that his father is Thomas and living, presumably in Tuam. Unfortunately, he died aged only 33 years, in Cork, leaving my great grandmother, Ellen, with three little children.
So far I have been unable to turn up any records for him in Tuam. Perhaps you may have more success. Regards, Geraldine McQuilan, mcquildg@gmail.com

Hi Rick,
We are related via Ellen Kelly (nee Phillips) line. I saw that you went to Tuam I wonder if you found out anything about Stephen and Ellen's family. I'm especially trying to trace some of Ellen's children's vitals and even to find out when Ellen died. Anything is great, we've only known the connection since January (We're from Ellen's "Mary A" daughter) and still getting our head around it and tracing the family down.
Thanks,
Deb
