I am not aware of the above but wonder if there is anything on the Newspaper Archives. The local newspaper, the Tuam Herald is available to search from quite an early period so there should be mention of it there:

Records of the Poor Law Union are available here to view but usually individual children are not referenced, rather they are referred to as a group, if at all:

My grandmother is 99 years old but doesn't recall ever hearing anyone ever talk about it but the newspapers might be your best bet.

I have been working on the O'Malley Mayo Clan Tree on Ancestry.com and came across a number of family trees relating to O'Malleys in Winnipeg and other parts of Western Canada. They all descend from a couple John O'Malley and Eleanor Jameson, who had 8 children: William, Jane-Sarah, Catherine-Martha, Eleanor-Mary, Robert-George, Creighton, John-Henry and Samuel-Robinson. Karen O'Malley has a post here on Ireland XO saying that Jhn died in 1857 and Eleanor died in the workhouse in 1858. Following their deaths, a supposedly well-documented custody case followed between John's Catholic brother William and Eleanor's Church of Ireland sister Jane Robinson. I have not been able to find anything further. Have you?

My reason for doing this is that I am involved in the O'Malley Project on Family Tree DNA ( www.ftdna.com ). I am looking for male O'Malleys from this family group who would be interested in doing a Y-DNA test to help establish the DNA signatures of the various lines of Mayo O'Malleys. If you could pass this on to any of your siblings, cousins, etc who's like to find out more, I'd particularly appreciate it. I can be reached on brendan.omaley@markree.ie
