My McDermott ancestors appear to have originated in the area of North East Galway. I've identified a significant number of McDermotts living in the Templetogher/Williamstown area in the 1911 census, particularly Kiltybannan. I wonder if any McDermotts live there currently. Two of my relatives are members of a McDermott Y-DNA project, but so far haven't identified any further matches. I would be keen to know if any local McDermotts would also be willing to test as part of this project.

Julie:
Another Facebook resource would be the East Galway Genealogy and DNA page. Very large number of members.

Thank you both! I am already a member of East Galway Genealogy and DNA page (that is how I learned of my family's DNA connection to East Galway), and am following the Williamstown Heritage page. I IM'd the administrators, but there is no way to post on that page. I also reached out to them via email and am awaiting a response. I've joined the Western Family History Association and sent them a message as well. I sent an email to East Galway Family History Society, and they referred me back to this site, or to the Williamstown Heritage Facebook page, which provides wonderful, colorful history of the area, but not a collaboration between amateur genealogists or a way to interact. Clare has the wonderful Clare Library which is so helpful, I was hoping East Galway had a similar benevolent organization that was keen to help folks looking for living relatives. Thank you again!
Kind regards,
Julie
