This is my first time on this forum, so please excuse my inexperience. My 2nd Great Grandfather, William Maloy, was born in Galway in 1810. Although I have nothing difinitive, recent information leads me to believe that he came from Rahoon Parish. And, miracles of miracles, I've been presented with an opportunity to go to Ireland in November! Of course, I'm reasearching like mad until then, but I'm wondering how I could find a person or genealogical society that I can meet with in that area. Even if I don't have great information by the time I go there, I'd like to speak with someone there that might help me understand what is available in that area, and perhaps help me in furthering my search once I'm home again. Thank you in advance for your assistance. Julie D.

Julie:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
We do not have a parish liaison in Rahoon. The Rahoon RC records start in 1819 http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0635
Since Rahoon parish is not far from Galway city, I would suggest you contact the main library
http://www.galway.ie/en/services/library/galwaylocalhistory/
I will also ask our HQ folks if they have some suggestions.
Have a great trip!
