In the 1830s there were two active chapels in Rahoon Catholic parish, one at Bushy Park and the other at Knocknacarragh townland near Barna, plus an old smaller chapel near Barna - see : RC Parish of Rahoon, Galway Diocese. There was still a chapel at both Bushy Park and Knocknacarragh in the 1890s, although both appear to be larger - possibly rebuilt or extended.

There's seems to be a gap in the Rahoon baptism registers between March 1877 and January 1881, which probably explains the difficulty locating Michael's baptism. (the register only includes just over a page of 1881 records - most of the films cut off by 1880)

I checked Roots Ireland which is a subscription site and found baptismal records for all the children except Michael and I looked at three of the records and they all showed Rahoon parish. Shane mentioned the gap in Rahoon records in the late 1870s which explains why we can't find Michael's record.

Thank you for the information especially a gap with Michael O'Neill Jr's Catholics Baptism registry and much appreicated.  The next step is to find Michael O'Neill and his household via Griffith's Valuation to figure out a distance to closest possible chapel.  Here is a link: http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/galway/rahoon.htm  I checked Michael O'Neill Jr's Civil Birth Registry and it listed his father's townland as Rahoon, so it is a good assumption that the O'Neill Family lived in the Rahoon parish from 1830's to 1880's.  This puzzles me.  Am I missing something here?

There are a couple of factors worth bearing in mind when checking Griffith's primary valuation - in this area the Valuation was published on the 7th March 1854, so possibly before Michael & Bridget married. Michael snr. is described as a labourer on the birth record for his son Michael jnr. and people with this occupation often had move to find work, so it's possible that in 1854 Michael lived somewhere else.

Agricultural labourers often lived in low value temporary buildings, e.g. built from sods etc, which would not be included in the valuation, and other factors to bear in mind rearding eligibility for inclusion in the Valuation, e.g. people living at home with family or relations  would not be listed separately. People living in shared accommodation, e.g. lodgings or tenements, also would not be listed.
