Hi, I'm trying to trace my Great Grandad Peter Walsh back to Ireland. I know from a 1911 censors that he was born about 1871/1873 in Peter Well Ireland. I know that in 1901 he got married in Egland and his fathers name on the certificate is John Walsh who was a farmer but that's as far as I can get, I would love to find out more info. Is Peter Well meant to be peterswell and what area should I be looking in? is it classed as Gort? I know peterswell is a small place so with the birth dates, area and fathers name I'm hoping to find something. If anyone can help I would be very grateful.

Morning
If you have a look on Roots Ireland (it's a subscription site - www.rootsireland.ie) there are 6 baptism/births for a Peter Walsh in Co. Galway, one of these is a civil birth record (civil births started after 1864) and it lists a Peter born to a father John Walsh and a mother Biddy Loughrey. It may not be your ancestor as the other 5 are all in around the same estimated birth year, but have a look at all of them and see what you think. Luckily you ancestor was born after 1864 so you may be able to find siblings' civil birth records also on that site. The address for that particular birth cert is New Park, Gort.
All of the above assumes that you have the correct info from the census 1911? How did you kow that the Peter mentioned on the 1911 was your Peter?
Peters Well is spelt Peterswell and it is about 3 miles from Gort. For the parish of Peterswell records start in 1854 for baptisms and 1856 for marriages. St. Thomas' National School have a nice website with a bit of parish history on it - http://peterswellschool.com/PETERSWELL.html
Let me know how you get on

Thank you Mrs Doyle for all the info, I've come across the name Biddy on some searches I've done before so I need to look into that again.
The Peter Walsh on the 1911 censor is definitely the right Peter because the address matches where my Dad was born.
I'm not 100% that his fathers name is John because they told a few porkies on marriage certificate (because of his wife's age.)

Just found the 1901 censors for Peter Walsh and it say place of birth killifin Ireland, this is defiantly the same Peter Walsh but with two different places of birth on the 1911 and 1901 censors- confusing

Hi,
Would you mind looking at the Kilbeacanty messages and see if this message http://www.irelandxo.com/group/kilbeacanty-galway/messages/looking-colloins-around-peterswell
relates to people in Peterswell?
There are two threads on the same family here is the second one.
