Looking for info about any Burke's/ancilliary families in the Tonroe area. Specifically, Burkes going back to James and Mary Whelan circa 1820. I can provide lots of info on the many family members who came to Boston.

Hi
Remember to post as much information as you can regarding the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.
Kind regards,

Suzanne, "Dia duit", hello. I would be interested in swapping info as we may have a distant connection. My great-great-great-grandfather was Patrick Whelan of Tonroe, for whom I have records to show he was born c.1796 & died 1877 in Tonroe. Whilst in Tonroe in 2010 we were introduced to Pete Kearney, who told us some of the history of our family & showed us the old family cottage, built about 1825. He told us the Whelans had some 15 acres or so in and around Tonroe. Patrick Whelan married Honor Larkin & had children in the 1830s, including my great-great-grandfather Peter Whelan (1834 - 1905) who married Mary Fahy of Tonroe and Tawin Island (1855 - 1936).
Could you show me some more info on James Burke and Mary Whelan ?
I'm including a brief family record of another Burke and Whelan marriage you may have heard of, between Michael Burke and Mary Whelan, whom I am only guessing at the moment was a daughter of Patrick and Honor Whelan, based on the Irish naming tradition. I look forward to your answer. If anyone else on this forum is able to assist with more info it would be appreciated - "is fearr maidir le, Se?n O".

Christening Notes: Listed as Honor BURKE of Tonroe, daughter of Michael & Mary
BURKE. Sponsors were Patrick WHELAN & Honor SHEAN. If as I suppose, this is my
great-great-great-grandfather Patrick WHELAN, this is a possible clue that his wife
Honor had died by this stage, because I imagine Honor would also be a sponsor of
young Honor BURKE, being her grandmother, if she was alive.
