I'm wondering if Martin's death record has any information on his parents names? 

I checked Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie and there are four baptismal records in the Galway West area from 1833-1839. Without knowing th eparents names it will be difficult to confirm if any of these records pertains to your Martin. Also, more than half of the Galway West parishes do not have records back to 1836.

Roger,  Thank you. I believe his mother was Honora and his father was Michael or Martin. His death certificate only says Galway.

I looked on the subscription site Roots Ireland and there is a October 30 1836 baptismal record for a Martin Shaughnessy with father Michael Shaughnessy and mother Honor Lowry. The record was in the Oranmore RC parish.
