I believe James Magee was the son of Irish immigrants, James Magee (Sr)(1786-1861, buried in Sag Harbor, NY) and wife, Nancy (Ann)Barrett b. Ireland married Ireland (died in Aquebogue in 1872). James (Jr.) born 1821 is listed on the ship manifest of the "Scotland" which landed at the port of New York on July 15, 1838 with his mother and seven siblings, Matthew, Mark, John, Isabella, Mary, Ann and Ellen. The father may have come earlier or on another ship, as he is not on the manifest of the "Scotland". He is, however, listed in the 1840 census of Riverhead as a blacksmith, with the family. Parents moved to Southampton Long Island by the 1850 census with some of the younger children while son, James remained in Aquebogue as a blacksmith. James is my Great-Grandfather. We don't know where they came from in Ireland.1. James Magee, b. Abt 1821, Ireland d. 5 Feb 1898, Aquebogue, Suffolk Co., LI, NY2. Matthew Magee, Ireland, Southold, Suffolk Co., LI, NY 3. Mark Magee, Ireland4. John Magee, Ireland 5. Isabella Magee, Ireland 6. Mary Magee, Ireland7. Ann Magee, Ireland 8. Ellen Magee, Ireland
One source says they came from R355 Ballycrissane in Galway but I really am not sure. I appreciate any help.

Hi,
Thank you very much for your message.
Unfortunately, it may be difficult to find information without a more specific place of origin. Most Irish record sources- church records, land records, census records- are based on specific locations. Until you know a specific location within Ireland, preferably a parish or place name, it may be difficult to do anything more with these records.
Perhaps as Ballycrissane is mentioned as a possible place of origin you should start your search there. I believe that the place you are referring to is Ballycrossaun in Tiranascragh civil parish. This is part of Killimore Roman Catholic parish. You could try looking at records in the parish to see if you can find any records pertaining to the Magees. Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. It also shows you where copies of the records are available. For Killimore parish, follow this link:
As you can see from this link the East Galway Family History Centre have some copies. If you would like to contact them here is their email galwayroots@eircom.net However a fee may apply.
There are some places where you can search online, however it may be difficult to discern whether the results are relevant to your family or not without more information:
www.familysearch.org has a huge database of genealogical records including some church records for Ireland.
www.rootsireland.ie have a large collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.
You could also try searching for the family in the Tithe Applotment Books. These were compiled between 1823 and 1837 in order to determine the amount which occupiers of agricultural holdings should pay in tithes to the Church of Ireland. They do not give any genealogical information but can sometimes be used to tie a person to a specific place. You can search these here:
http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
Some other websites that you may find useful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
Genealogy Links: http://www.genealogylinks.net/uk/ireland/galway/index.html
The US National Archives: http://www.archives.gov/
Irish Genealogy Toolkit: http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/index.html
Remember to post any new information that you find here, especially with regards to place of origin. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Kind regards,

I don't know what my great grandfathers middle initian F stood for. His son Francis J. Wright (1883-1937) was my grandfather and since his first name starts with an F he may have been given his fathers middle name..
I don't recognize any of the other names you listed above. This is the only Wright line of blood in my family. The other side is Finnegan.
Sorry.

Also, if for some reason, you believe your James McGee stopped off in Canada for a time, I found This:https://www.ancestry.com/interactive/3253/40940_2000729071-00420/327935 this guy would have been a second foot soldier. It does state a county and parish. If he is yours.
I just had time on my hands

The link you gave me only drives me back to Ancestry's marketing offer to join again. I have stopped it for a while since I am happy with the information I have.

Hi!,
My family was from Meath/WestMeath, County Roscommon which at one time was called 'Dillon Country', (some were from Galway.)
I'll check and see if my great-grandmother had a sister whose name was Rosanna, I know she had something like 12-14 sibilings and right now I can't recall all the names! Will look and get back to you.
Did any of your Dillons end up in Virginia,Ohio, Cherokee Kansas and finally Indiana?
Susie

Hi Susie, that would be greatly appreciated. Rosanna Dillon is one of my challenge ancestors. I have good documentation starting from her 1851 marriage to James Francis Doyle in NYC. I have no information about her from Ireland, her parents or siblings. From Rosanna’s death certificate, I know that her father’s name was John. I have a 3 to 5th cousin DNA hit with a Dillon from the Spiddal area. That is all I have to go on. She could have been from another part of Ireland. I have a public family tree on Ancestry.com and have taken the Ancestry DNA test.
All my ancestors are from the NYC area. I’m not aware of any family members from other parts of the country.

TO:Tom
TO: Mary
Tom, I didn't find any Rosanna's in my line of Dillons, but will keep looking.
Mary, I'm looking for any Dillons who were from Meath, W. Meath, Roscommon Co., and Galway. They came to the states through New York and migrated to Virginia. Then some went on to Ohio, Indiana,Kansas and Michigan.
Thanks for any info!
