Hello, I am hoping someone can help me. I am research my Great Grandfather, Micheal Paul Madden from Galway County Ireland. He came to the United States around 1860 (according to the 1900 US Census) . The only information I have on him as far as Ireland is a hand written notes from my now deceased Aunt(I do not know where she got her information). On one page she has written he was born in "Timmy Cat Galway Ireland" on the second page has he was from "Timmy Cat Kilkern P.O. (Kilikornan) Galway Ireland (Killerrin near Creggs Galway". Now on a map of Ireland, I have found Galway County Kilerrin (Google map shows two! They are connected by "Graveyard Road") What has me confused is the term "Timmy Cat" is this a Parish or something else? I believe he was Catholic as that was what he was here in the United States

Timothy:
Timacat is a 486 acre townland in Kilkerrin civil parish. Kilkerrin is in northeast Co. Galway.
I checked Google Maps and you can find Timacat on that application.
You should also check the 1901/1911 census www.census.nationalarchives.ie There were four Madden families in Timacat in 1901 NOTE: The townland was spelled Timicat in the census.

Just to add to Rodger's info you can access the Griffith's and the census here http://places.galwaylibrary.ie/asp/fullresult.asp?id=30253
- the Griffith's gives who rented there in 1855 and tehre is a Patrick and a Thomas Madden
- both the 1901 and 1911 census shows a cluster of 3 Madden houses which suggests a relationship and another Madden one nearby in close proximity which means that it may be a more distant relative
My cousin lives in Kilkerrin so I will ask her to look into this for you
As your ancestor was named Michael the possibility is that he was fromthe single Madden house as there is a Michael there
Where in the US do you live ?

First off I want to thank you for not only your answer (I found Timacat on Google) but also how fast you answer it also! I look at the census you suggested but as I do not know his father name I am not sure which family he belong to. If I may ask, how would I go about checking for a birth or baptism record with the Catholic church there? Is it something I would have to do in person or can I write them? I doubt they are online. Micheal Paul Madden die in 1901 at age 63 which would put his birth year around 1838. Again thank you for your help and creating this great website.

Thank you for fast reply and answer, I Googled Timacat and found it. I looked at the two census you mentioned but as I do not know his father name, I do not know which family he is from. How would you suggest I try to get his birth or baptism record? Michael Paul Madden died in 1901 age 63 which would put his birth year around 1838. Thank you again for your time and help.

A while back I posted a request for any information on a Michael Paul Madden from Timicat Ireland. Since then I have found some more information. Michael Paul Madden had 6 brothers and 3 sisters. The brothers were Patrick who came to the United States along with Matthew, Martin, Malachy and John. John was killed in Wisconsin by a falling tree. Date unknown. Patrick married a widow with children. One brother James stayed in Ireland. Michael Paul Madden’s sisters were Mary Madden who stayed in Ireland. Brigid Madden who married a Burke and lived in Minnesota and Kate Madden who married a Clark and lived in Alpena Michigan. Any information or connection both in the United States and Ireland would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
