My great grandfather, Edward Joseph McNeill was born on 7 Jan 1875 in Ballymoe, Galway, Ireland. He emigrated from Ireland in 1900. His marriage license shows his father is Michael McNeill and mother’s maiden name is Ellen Walsh. I believe I found his birth certificate (in Irish births and baptisms 1620-1881 record base) with same birth date and parent names but spelled Mcneal. It seems likely that it is my great grandfather but am confused by the different spellings. It lists his birthplace as Williamstown, Glennamaddy, Galway, Dublin, ireland
His immigration records show him coming from Ballymoe. I searched the 1901 census and found Michael and Ellen McNeill living in Cloonadarragh (Ballymoe, Galway) with other children. Could these have been his immediate family? I searched for marriage records/birth for his parents but don’t have enough info. I’m hoping you are able to help. My grandmother has passed on and many of her records were lost.
Thanks,
Pat

Cloonadarragh is about a mile north of Ballymoe on the N60 national road. Most emigrants would say they were from the nearest town rather than the actual townland which would explain the his naming Ballymoe. I'm sure the Cloonadarragh family is his parents. I also located 1868 marriage index records which are very likely for your parents. You can get a copy of the marriage record from the General Register Office for around 4 euros.Go to this site and print out the form for a marriage record and mail to the GRO. You can ask them to e-mail back the record.

I also looked at the 1856 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Drumatemple parish and there was an Edward McNeill listed for Cloonadarragh likely the father of Michael.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! What should I reference when I request the marriage certificate (1868 marriage index records)? Is there a specific date and Cloonadarragh? Thanks, Pat

Pat:
Provide the year, registration district (Glennamaddy) Volume and page number ( 4 and 368). You also have to fill out the rest of the form to the best of your ability.
