Good Day,

I am trying to find out if i still have any family living in Ireland. My 3rd great grandparents according to my records i have been able to find were born in roscommon, IRE however i do not know of what town or parish they were born in which I know this is for count Galway which leads me to their daughter my 2nd great aunt. Her name is Jane Bridget Coyne and according to my record finds she was born in Ballymoe, Galway on 15 dec, 1842 then the family emigrated to america in 1846. If anyone has any records or details that could help me connect to any family still living in Ireland it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Cory

  • Hi Cory!

    Cory:

I did find this record on the subscription site Roots Ireland. The baptismal date is in April. The transcription shows April 12 but the actual register shows April 14  https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000633889#page/19/mode/1up

The register is in Latin and ther name shown for Jane is Joannem.

  • Cory:

Regarding family now in Ireland. Any connections would be fourth or fifith cousins. I mentioned DNA testing in an earlier response. That would be your best bet for making connections whether they are in Australia, Canada, USA or Ireland.

IThanks Roger! I have done multiple DNA tests because my connection to the Coyne family is new my father was originally adopted and through doing DNA testing I was able to find his biological family which in turn my grandmother was a Coyne(was changed in the 1900s to Koine due to a family member) the issue I have come against is that I Henry been able to find many Coyne relatives who have taken DNA tests and I am in ancestry, 23andme, MyHeritage, and familytreedna. That’s where I was hoping I could make a connection or find land still owned by my family to connect with. I will continue reaching out and hope I am able to make that connection!

I really appreciate your help and information you’ve been able to provide!

  • Hi Cory

FYI townlands in the RC Parish for BALLINTUBBER & BALLYMOE are mapped here.

Do you have information vis. Jane Bridget Coyne’s parents? Is emigration in 1846 a certain fact? (Do you have her on a ship's manifest by any chance?)

Michael Coyne/Coin/Kine/Coen and *Catherine Scully/Scally baptising in RC parish BALLINTUBBER on 15 April 1842 (no additional baptisms). Interestingly both godparents on this record are siblings of Michael: John Coyne & Winifred Coyne (Winifred's native name was Úna aka Oonagh). This confirms:

    Coyne siblings BALLINTUBBER

Mícheál  aka Michael (m. Catherine Scally / gp.1842)

    Seán aka John (m. Mary Casserly /gp. 1842 / bap. 1850)

Úna aka Winifred (m. Peter Casey / gp.1842)

Catherine Coyne (m. James Kelly / bap. 1850)

    Catherine Scally/Scully BALLINTUBBER

godparents for Catherine Coyne &  James Kelly in 1845 (along with John Coyne)

godparents for Edward Scally & Brigid Rogers  in 1848* (along with Denis Scally)

godparents for John Coyne &  Mary Casserly in 1850* (along with Edward Scally)

Based on Catherine Scally's dates above...

If Brigid's parents emigrated with her for sure in 1846*... I don't believe the Jane Coyne born April 1842 in RC Ballintubber, can be your girl.  :-(

Unless they emigrated after 1850? However,  the April baptism is also a good a bit out from Dec.
