  • Hi there,

Could you please post your message on the Kilcloony (Ballinasloe) parish profile page here: http://www.irelandxo.com/group/kilcloony-galway

This is a bit of a long shot, but you could try checking the 1821 census records fragments for Loughrea for Patrick Downey. This is available at the Genealogical Office via the National Library of Ireland. GO Ms. 622. pp 53 & ff

There is a book that might be worth reading about Ballinasloe by Patrick K Egan called The parish of Ballinasloe, its history from the earliest times to the present day, Galway: Kennys Bookshops, 1994, NLI Ir. 94124 e 2, 355p.

Hopefully someone in the local community will be able to shed some more light for you.

Best of luck in your research!

    Kind regards,

    Sinead Cooney

  • Thanks Paula,

I called into Downey's Bar in 2008, but unfortunately the owners were on leave.  I will be visiting again in May 2012, so will try again.  I now know a little more of my Downey to aid my search in Ireland.

    Regards,

    Prurob
