I am looking for any family history or any family contacts for William Causey born in 1744. His father , Thomas was believed to be English who settled in Ireland. Thomas traveled to the America's several times before he and his son's and possibly a daughter settled here in 1774. William fought against the English in the American Revolution. All the info we have traces to Grant's Causeway, County Galway. Some contacts say they have never heard of Grants Causeway, maybe because of the early date(1700's) or possibly early translation and that maybe it is Giant's Causeway. Many thanks for any info, Connie E. Causey

Do you know much about their emigration? The dates, the reasonwhy they left, who they may have travelled with?..etc..Generally more information was given atthe port of arrival rather than the port of departure. If you knew which city they arrived at (e.g.Liverpool, New York, etc.), this could be a good place to find more information. -And perhaps evenfind out an exact place of origin. Ellis Island:http://www.ellisisland.org/search/passSearch.asp Castlegarden:http://www.castlegarden.org/ US National Archives/Immigration info:http://www.archives.gov/research/immigration/ The Boston Pilot; From October 1831 through October 1921, the Boston Pilot newspaper printed a?Missing Friends? column with advertisements from people looking for ?lost? friends and relativeswho had emigrated from Ireland to the United States. This extraordinary collection of 40,743 recordsis available here as a searchable online database, which contains a text record for each ad thatappeared in the Pilot. http://infowanted.bc.edu/ The next thing you could do is find the counties and places in Ireland your family names are mostprevalent. Look at the website http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/surname/ and perhapssomething will match some other clue you may have found elsewhere? If nothing turnsup ? it is advisable to try different variations of the spellings of the names. If you have a possiblefirst name you could try the Irish Census 1901, 1911 at www.census.nationalarchives.ie/ or the landvaluation record called Griffiths Valuationhttp://askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml

Hi Connie,
My name is Renee Ravencraft Bierbaum, but my mother's father was Charles Causey. William Causey was my 5th Great Grandfather. I, too, am trying to get beyond Thomas, his father and find out more. If I find anything I will let you know.

I know this is an old thread and I don't have a lot to offer. My name is Thomas Causey and I remember my father saying that our ancestors came to the US from Ireland. If anyone can tell me where to go from there, I am open to suggestions.

Hello,
I have lived in County Galway, Ireland, all my life. I can vouch for the fact that there is no place called Grant's Causeway in County Galway. I am fairly certain that the correct reference must be to the Giant's Causeway in County Antrim in Northern Ireland, an internationally recognised tourist attraction drawing thousands of visitors to the locality every year. I presume that the letter i must have been replaced inadvertently with an r at some stage changing Giant's into Grant's. I hope this may be helpful.
Brendan.

Thomas,
I checked the subscription site rootsireland.ie for births and marriages with the name Causey. All 2 births recorded in the country are in Co. Tyrone while 3 of the 4 marriages in the country are in Co Tyrone, with the fourth marriage in Co. Offaly. The man married in Co. Offaly was in the British army so was probably from somewhere else. I think that Co. Tyrone is a good guess!
Best wishes, Kieran
