  • Hi Ed. I'm not related but you should try to plan ahead and see as much as you can while you're over. There's actually tons to see around Kiltulla if you plan ahead. From the best pint in world (Wardes) to Kiltulla House, to Esker, to Bookeen Hall, to Dunsandle House ruins, to the old Kiltulla graveyard... not to miention Athenry, Loughrea, and Bullaun. Hope you have a lovely visit. P.S. Maybe try to catch a hurling match too..

Just a bit of information to keep you on your toes during your visit!  A relative of mine committed two murders in Knockatogher in 1821.  One of the people he murdered was Eleanor Coen (similar to Cannon) and a witness who helped children escape the scene was Bridget Cannon.  Obviously not your Bridget Cannon, but were they related?.  I attach the newspaper report.

There is a Cannon family in Knockatogher in the 1821 census - William (age 32), Margaret (30), Mary (3) and John (1).  There are several Cunnanes and Connors in Knockatogher in 1821.

Life in knockatogher at the time is described in my book - see   www.leavingofloughrea.com

Good luck and enjoy your visit.  If you find anything about 1821 I'd be interested to hear.
