Hi! I am hoping to find any info anyone may have about my Kilmeen Parish Family! My Great Great Grandfather Timothy McCarthy married Catherine Beahan (born 1827). They were living in Knocknamuckallagh in 1868 when my Great Grandmother Catherine was baptised in Boherbue Church. Catherine had a brother Timothy (born 1864) and sister Ellen (born 1866). She possibly had a brother Charles. My Great Grandmother Catherine married Timothy Dennehy (1865-1911) of Tullig near Milstreet. If I'm right Catherine's brother (Timothy Mc Carthy) married her husbands sister Honora Murphy (Nee Dennehy)(born 1864) after she was widowed in 1894. I know I'm throwing loads of names and dates around but hey you never know! Thank you!!! Muireann

Hi Muireann,
Thank you very much for your message. I hope that someone recognises the family and contacts you to further your research.
In the meantime, did you know that Kilmeen belongs to the Catholic parish of Boherbue and that these records are available online free of charge?

Another useful website is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. FOr Boherbue parish follow this link:
I notice that some of the dates that you have mentioned are 1864+. Civil registration began in Ireland in 186+4 so all births, deaths, marriages that occurred in the family after this date will also have been recorded in civil records. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office in Dublin. Here is their website:

You can search the indexes to these records up to 1958 online at:

Have you tried looking for record of the family in the land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century? There are two:
The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
and Griffith?s Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
Also, if you haven?t already done so, you could check for record of the family in the 1901/1911 census records which can offer lots of useful information:

Some other websites that you may find helpful are:

I hope some of this is helpful. Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.
