My Great Great Grandfather, Kyranus Copely, is said to have left the town of Kanturk, Country Cork, in about 1850 heading for Melbourne Australia.  He left with his brother Pierce Copely.  This inforrmation comes from Fox's History of Queensland published early in the 20th century and held by the University of Queensland's library.

He was apparently married to Ellen O'Donovan of County Tipperary.  I don't know if he married her before he left Ireland or after he arrived in Australia.

I was looking for information on Kyranus Copely and his family.  I will be travelling to Ireland in July 2013 and was looing to travel to those areas that this part of my family came from.  I would be most greatful if you are able to assist me with any information.

Kind regards

  • Hi John

I searched on www.rootsireland.ie/ for Kyranus Copely born any year in any county and got no results

However for Pierce Copely there was 1 match - Pierce COPLEY 1832 in Limerick

You need to purchase credit to view the full record on rootsireland.ie but it SHOULD have the fahtre's name and the parish. Looks like even though they left from Cork they didn't live there.

You might like to have a look at the Tithe Applotments which are free to search online. There are 7 COPELYs - 1 in Cork 1833 & 6 in Kilkenny all in 1823

There are also 9 COPLEYs 1 Dublin 1 Cork 3 Kilkenny and 3 Limerick
