I have posted several messages, but am waiting for the Kilmeen site to come online. There must be someone from that Parish that is also looking for what became of Henry Connor/Conners after he left County Cork around 1864 or so to go to Wales with his wife Johanna/Hannah. They had 2 children born in Cork, Catherine and Mary or Mary Ann. He would later immigrate and eventually end up in Pennslyvania. His father's name was Owen and I believe from Baptistmal Records from Kanturk Parish that his mother's name was Catherine Rourk/Rourke.

Griffith's Valuation will note 11 Owen Connor from County Cork and if the Baptismal Records are the right ones, Henry was baptisted in Kanturk Parish in May of 1830.  The date lines up with what little information I already had on him. I also believe that he had a brother named Daniel who was baptized in 1818 in the Catholic Parish of Ballyclough and would follow Henry to Wales before 1881 when he (Daniel) is noted on the Welsh Census as living next door to Henry with his wife Ellen.  With the research I've done, that would put Owen (if he was still alive in 1852) in the Townland of either Cloongeel, Glenalougha or Shanavoher.

I have a second cousin living around Cardiff Wales who is a direct descendant of Catherine (the daughter) and Henry (the father).

I feel that I may have gone as far as I can go unless someone there is likewise having as hard a time as I have making a connection. There must be someone there who is looking for me as hard as I am looking for them. It would be miraculous to make a connection.

Apologies for the long delay in getting back to you. Have you managed to find out any more about the above?

  • Hello,

My 3rd Great Grandfather John Larkin was born in Kilmeen 09 Jun 1813 and emigrated to the US New York City in 1840 and later settled in Perth Amboy, New Jersey.

My 3rd Great Grandmother was Catherien Connors and she was born in Kilcooly Parish.  They were married in the Old St Patrick's Cathedral in New York City in 1845.

If you are connected to either the LARKIN or CONNORS families, I'd like to hear from you.

    Thanks.

    Tom
