Hello,
My great-great grandparents Daniel and Winnifred Lee came from Ireland during the potato famine. My father's cousin told me they came from the area of Headford, Galway. Winnifred's maiden name was Kenny or Keany, and she had a previous husband named Mangan. Winnifred was said to have been born just across the border in County Mayo. I think these places of origin are correct, because there are several Lees in Killursa Parish. But there are no records existing from that far back. If anyone has a connection to these families from this area, I would be interested in contact. My DNA matches from this branch of the family also include people with the name Walsh.

The tithe applotments of 1826 list a Daniel Lee as head of household in Cloonee townland, which is in Headford. See
http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/reels/tab//004587431/00…
Note there are several other Lees as well.

Thank you for your reply! My ancestor Daniel Lee would still have been a teenager in 1826, so it's unlikely that he already would be a head of household. But the Daniel Lee in the Tithe Applotment Books was probably a fairly close relative. It's very interesting that not only was there a Daniel Lee in Cloonee, but there were a Michael Lee, John Lee, and Francis Lee living right next to him. My Daniel Lee's oldest child was named John, so perhaps his father was named John too.

Yes, thank you! I had seen these Griffith's Valuations results too, which made me think my Lee ancestors must have been from Carrownakib. But what you sent before means I should check in Griffith's Valuations for Cloonee Townland too. Although my particular Lee ancestors were already in Pennsylvania in the 1850 U.S. census.
