My great grandmother Brigid Keogh was born in  1856 at possibly Ballinasloe. Verbal history (because she was unable to write) says that she lived around Ballinasloe and Loughrea. Her marriage was passed on in a handwritten note as follows.A Copy of A Handwritten Marriage Certificate is as follows:
Certificate of Marriage.
County Galway.Diocese of Clonfert.Parish of Killincoll. MARTIN LEO m BRIGID KEOGH 5th May 1869.Witnesses Wm. Bernard Teresa Burke
Signed:John P Callanan.Parish Priest.
Celebrant not recorded but "Father William Melvin" pencilled in.
Given at Killinoll - 3 November 1919.

My research indicates that the marriage may have  taken place at Killimor RC Church.The word Killinoll in the above message should be Killinmor.

Is the name Keogh known in this area?Where was John P Callanan a Parish Priest in 1869? When was Father William Melvin a priest in this area?

I have discovered that Martin Leo was before the "Petty Session Courts" at this time also which indicates he lived in the area.Any help would be appreciated.Are there any resident living in Killimor who could check the actual register for me as the date is clear?

    I have access to the Petty Session Registers. Martin Leo had numerous Petty Session appearances over many years. One time he was fined for being drunk, another time he was caught with a dog who did not have a license and another time he let  two of his pigs wander over on a neighbors property and was fined. There were other occurences.

  • Hi Adrian-looking at your query re.SPAW.I am reasonably familiar with the Killimor /Heathlawn area and have never heard of anyplace called Spaw.Looking carefully at the Petty Sessions details where Mr.Saunderson's address is given as Heathlawn and the defendants-the Leos-written underneath it appears to me as if what appears to be Spaw is in fact an abbreviation of Heathlawn.

    Familysearch website has details  of a Martin Leo baptised in Eyrecourt in 1871/mother Bridget Keogh.

    East Galway Family History Society,Woodford,can supply you with Birth,Marriage and death records.
