My great grandmother Brigid Keogh was born in 1856 at possibly Ballinasloe. Verbal history (because she was unable to write) says that she lived around Ballinasloe and Loughrea. Her marriage was passed on in a handwritten note as follows.A Copy of A Handwritten Marriage Certificate is as follows:
Certificate of Marriage.
County Galway.Diocese of Clonfert.Parish of Killincoll. MARTIN LEO m BRIGID KEOGH 5th May 1869.Witnesses Wm. Bernard Teresa Burke
Signed:John P Callanan.Parish Priest.
Celebrant not recorded but "Father William Melvin" pencilled in.
Given at Killinoll - 3 November 1919.
My research indicates that the marriage may have taken place at Killimor RC Church. The word Killinoll in the above message should be Killinmor.
Is the name Keogh known in this area?Where was John P Callanan a Parish Priest in 1869? When was Father William Melvin a priest in this area?
I have discovered that Martin Leo was before the "Petty Session Courts" at this time also which indicates he lived in the area.Any help would be appreciated. Are there any resident living in Killimor who could check the actual register for me as the date is clear?
Thanks Adrian Leo

Hi Adrian
There is a record of the marriage on www.rootsireland.ie/
Parish District is Killimor R C.
Witness Wm Bernard & FRANCES Burke; no priest's name
There are 18 Keoghs in Galway in Griffiths Valuation (free site) which was done in Galway in 1855.No Leos though.
The Tithe Applotments have 6 Keoghs in Mayo but no Leos.

Thanks for your reply Col. Did you get this information from www.rootsireland.ie subscription. If I took a month with them would I see this information.?
The information seems to confirm what I have on this written note. Are the parents' names on the marriage?
What about births.? I have a Martin Leo born 1848 in Galway? Are his parents names mentioned?
Records can sometimes be a bit misleading. On census forms my MArtin Leo was born in Tipperary but I can see that Killimor is very close to Tipperary.
Thanks for your help.

Finally I have found the marriage of Martin Leo and Bridget Keogh on Page 55, 5 May 1869, in the Catholic Parish Register , Diocese of Clonfert/County Galway, Parish of Killimore and Tiranascragh. In the same Parish register were the births of their first 4 children. Now all I have to do is find out which Church was operating in 1869 in this parish. Our Lady of Clonfert (Eyrecourt) and St Joseph at Killimor are two possibilities. Anyone from these Churches able to assist? Thanks.

I will be visiting Killimor in late May and hope that St Joseph is the Church where Martin Leo was married. I hope to stand in that Church when I visit. is it open through the week?
