Dear friends in Ireland Reaching Out : Not having any response from you since Dec. 2012, I wonder if you've found anything ??? I have collaborated with my fourth cousin in northern California (Humboldt County) on an 8 Generation Descendant Chart for Patrick Quinn & Catherine Clarke. My cousin's parents have visited Galway and done research there. I have copies of some of their data. I have mailed copies of my 8 Generation report to two groups in Galway, the East Galway Family History Society and the Western Family History Association (in Galway). I have no findings from them but am being patient. 

I met Theresa & Robert Quinn Stanton (the parents of Kathleen Joan Stanton, my fourth cousin) when I attended a wedding in 2014 in La Jolla, CA (near San Diego). I am searching for another "branch" of the Quinn family that also settled in South Newmarket (Newfields), New Hampshire, as some are buried in Calvary Cemetery in Newmarket, NH. I have data from the Newfields Public Libaray (repository for the files of the Newfields Historical Society, which disbanded) that I hope to clarify with more data. There are 9 persons I have yet to fully identify. Two of these are Patrick J. Quinn & his wife Bridget Quinn (perhaps a cousin of his). Several are their chldren.

The parents of Patrick J. Quinn are John Quinn and Mary Nolan (but I have found nothing about them). One data reference states Patrick J. Quinn was born c.1835 - 1837, I believe in Ireland. I don't know when he emigrated

. He married Bridget Quinn on Nov. 20, 1865. He was a Boiler Maker in South Newmarket, NH. I have seven records from the Librarian for children of Patrick J. Quinn & Bridget Quinn in South Newmarket, NH but no clue how these connect to my six Quinn siblings. 

Do you have any suggestions for me in researching this Quinn mystery ? Thank you.

A quick look at the census has a Quinn family as blacksmiths in Killian, Newbridge and possibly there may be a connection

There are still strong Clarke connections there as well and 1901 Census has several families - some possibly connected to your Quinns

The only Quinn family I know in the RI area are the Quinn's that own the Funeral Home in Warwick. I remember their Aunt, Mary Jane Quinn. She was a registered nurse who worked in my dad's private practice. She left his employ to serve in the Korean Conflict. There maybe a connection there that will help. Also on my grandfather's baptismal certificate dated Feb. 7,1869 his godfather is Jacobus ( Latin ) Quinn . Might find him in the census records as a neighbor.  I will keep looking.  Ibestwishes

When my grand uncle Thomas Martin emigrated to the USA he lived for some time with Martin Quinn and his wife mary in Newport RI. I have the following information in relation to Quinns in Ballygar  - all of whom were blacksmiths.

Timothy Quinn: In 1855 his holding  consisted of “House, forge and land”. The land consisted of 5 acres and 10 perches valued at £1 and 15 shillings. The buildings were valued at 8 shillings. Timothy Quinn was a blacksmith and he appears to have died before 1864. By 1901 this holding was occupied by his son, John Quinn (55 years, born 1846) with his wife Ellen (48 years) and Patrick Kilroy (aged 5 years) who was a nephew of Ellen Quinn. They resided there also in 1911. The property was later inherited by Pat Kilroy. It is still owned by the Kilroy family.

The 1880 United States Census records Martin Quinn (aged 40 years, born 1840) residing with his wife Mary Quinn (aged 38 years, born 1842) in Newport, Rhode Island. His occupation is given as Blacksmith while that of his wife is Keeping House. The third occupant of the house was Thomas Martin whose occupation was given as Apprentice to Blacksmith. Thomas Martin was the son of Patrick and Catherine Martin from Cartron.

Thomas Quinn (b 1853) operated as a blacksmith in Ballygar in 1901 residing with his wife and son James (b 1884) in 1901. They were no longer resident in Ballygar in 1911

I seem to recall that the bridge at the Tullyroe end of the town was known as Quinn's Bridge in the 1950s-1960s

John and Martin Quinn were almost certainly brothers but I am not sure if they were related to Thomas Quinn.

It is probably significant that many of these Quinn emigrants settled in RI or in that area and that there is a common link in that so many were blacksmiths. Could Patrick and Timothy have been brothers or closely related
