Hello!  I am looking for information on my ancestor Timothy Clougher who lived in Roxbury, Boston, Massachusetts, USA.  He immigrated Feb 12, 1849 to New York City before moving to Massachusetts, USA.

Suspect he lived in Ballygar or very nearby.  He was born about 1811.   His parents on his death certificate were listed as Matthew and Mary Clougher.

Any suggestions on a next step to find information about Timothy?  All US sources have been exhausted.

Thank you!

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The Ballygar/killian/Killeroran RC parish baptismal records are not included on Roots Ireland. Here is a link to the parish register and you can see that records start in 1804 which is very early. However, there is a gap between 1833 and 1844. I would scan the register prior to 1833 to see if you can find Timothy's record or records for siblings. It looks like the records are in Latin and if you need help let me know.

The 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Killeroran civil parish shows a Patrick Clogher in Ballygar. Not sure how he may be connected to Timothy and Matthew.

I have no other suggestions, if you have exhausted all US records. Have you tried family search through the Morman Church?

    Hi Joe

Clogher is a rare enough surname and found mainly in Co Roscommon - quite a few within a short distance of the Galway border

Why do you think that he may be from Ballygar ?

Working on the premise that Timothy or Matthew may be family names I found this family in the 1911 Census

    http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Roscommon/Fuerty/Carro…

Fuerty parish is not too far from Ballygar and there is just one family there in the Griffith's Valuation

Before I do further hunting' just need you to acknowledge that you have seen this

  • Hi Joe, glad to hear from you. I am searching for information on Lawrence and Mary Cunningham from the same parish. They are my great grandparents . If you come across anything in your search that may pertain to them please let me know. Hope the Mormans helped. Michaela

  • Martin..that is interesting about fuerty. I have now gone through all the ballgame parish records online and not seen the ones I am interested in. If it is fuerty, that would be great. All cloggers as in this area, I can only hope the parish records survive
