My great grandmother, Bridget Welby, married Bartholomew Molloy in Kilcummin in 1859. We believe Bridget came from Ower, Kilannin but have been unable to trace the Welby branch of the family. Bridget and Bartholomew lived in Tullykyne, Moycullen. Any info. will be greatly appreciated.. Thank you. Mary.

  • Hi Mary

There is a record of the marriage of a Bridget Welby to a Bartholomew ?? (not Molloy) in Galway 1845 on www.rootsireland.ie/

The parish wasn't one of thoses you mentioned however.

There are 9 birth/baptism records of Bridget Welby Galway 1845 + - 10 years - do you have a year of birth?

There are 25 Welbys on Griffiths Valuation min Galway 1848-64 (free online) & 3 in the Tithe Applotments (also free online)

    The Irish Censuses (free) have 153 in 1901 & 139 in 1911

  • Thank you very much Col for your reply.I feel fairly confident that the marriage record for 1859 in Kilcummin is corrrect even though the Molloy name is  not correctly spelt!  I may well be wrong but I have not found a better option! Margaret Welby was a witness and also John McDonough.Their first child/son, Hugh, was born in 1860. We think that Bridget was born around 1835, based on age recorded in the 1901 census. She had died by 1911.I have looked at Griffiths for Ower and the 1901 and 1911 census  but am unable to make any connections. I did try to find a baptism record on rootsireland but did not succeed.Thank you again for responding. Happy New year. Mary
