Just to set the scene: records for the Roman Catholic Parish of Donaghpatrick and Kilcoona begin in 1844. There re some missing dates however; for baptisms between June 1844 and November 1849 and June 1861 and August 1863; for marriages between December 1846 and December 1849 and June 1861 and September 1863. 

As you say, rootsireland.ie includes the baptism details of Martin, Margaret, Catherine, Michael, Patrick and John. If Michael and Mary died young, as you think, there may be a civil death record on this site if they died after 1864. I checked the Galway County Council website to see if the graveyard at Donaghpatrick had been digitised yet, but it seems not. You could take a walk through it as part of your trip if you intend coming to the area anyway.

Records for Headford don?t begin until 1880. For further information about potential burials you could contact the Parish Priest in Headford:  headfordchurch@hotmail.com

Hi,  not sure if you arecstill looking but my great grandfather, Dennis Francis Curran was born in1874 to Sarah McHugh & John Curran in Ballycasey (?) Bradford. He came to Minneapolis Mn 1905ish. Then married Ellen Kilmartin from Inishmor, Kilronan.

Gosh auto correct. Head ford.  The 1901 census shows both families as neighbors.

Suzanne---I am pleased to see your posting.  It will be interesting to research if your Sarah McHugh has a connection to my Sarah McHugh ( records show 8 children born 1856-1877).  I do not recall having seen the name Curran in any of my family research so far but plan to review the children's baptism records again---I have always hoped the baptism sponsor names would lead me to further family knowledge.  Are your references to autocorrect meaning that Bradford in your response was really Headford?  And which 1901 census are you refering to?  We have another family trip to Ireland planned summer 2017 so another hope is to "find" family sites or even distant relatives in Ireland!  Thanks!  Mary

Hi Suzanne---I just received a notice from Ireland XO with Dennis Curran's picture.  Somehow last year I must have gotten side-tracked regarding our communications.  I have 2 Curran connections I have since found:  Thomas Curran as baptism sponsor (with Mary Higgins) June 1 1864 for Catherine Higgins (my great grandmother's sister) Donaghpatrick Parish, Galway County---Headford and Balleycasey are often referenced in the family's records.  She was part of the family eventually living in Minneaplolis.  I plan to research the Griffiths Valuation  for Currans  who may be listed near the Higgins and McHughs I have found in Donaghpatrick and Kilcoona Parishes.  I also have done my FTDNA and have a 2nd-4th Curran cousin---not sure that I can list his name on this site---I did send him an e-mail a number of months ago but no response.

Hi Mary,  I'd hazard a strong guess there's a connection, I know what a small area it was/is.  My Saragh McHugh's father was John and she was born in 1833.  Her husband was John Curran, my great granda was their son born in 1879 their youngest I believe.  I saw some records showing neighbors and they all were McHugh mainly   I have a tree on Ancestry would love to connect  I have also uploaded my DNA a few places like Gedmatch & Ftdna   Hopefully we can catch up.  Suzanne Heaton  heaton.genealogy@gmail.com
