I am descended from Elizabeth Dowd, daughter of Richard Dowd and Catherine Buckley, baptised 24 May 1833 at Rochfortbridge and emigrated to America with her sister in Jun 1854. Richard Dowd and Catherine Buckley married 31 Jul 1830 at Rochfortbridge (from Roots Ireland). Richard may have been born in 1805 and may have died in 1872. Catherine may have been born in 1807 and may have died Jan-Mar 1882.. Richard was listed in Griffiths Valuation (printed 1854) living in Kilbride on lot 22a

Children:

Elizabeth, baptised 24 May 1833 at Rochfortbridge (from Roots Ireland) emigrated to USA Jun 1854.

Mary, baptised 3 Sep 1836 at Rochfortbridge (from Roots Ireland) emigrated to USA Jun 1854.

Margaret, baptised 3 Apr 1841 at Rochfortbridge (from Roots Ireland).

Hugh, baptised 27 Apr 1843 at Rochfortbridge (from Roots Ireland). John, baptised 17 May 1845 at Rochfortbridge, married Frances Mary Mitchall 11 Feb 1877 (Roots Ireland), emigrated to USA 1882. Two eldest children baptised at Rochfortbridge (from Roots Ireland)

Letitia Philomena, baptised 1 Sep 1847 at Rochfortbridge (from Roots Ireland), emigrated to USA by 1870, married first James F. Eustice 26 Jun 1870 at Bridgewater, Massachusetts (from MA VRs), married second 16 May 1875 at Boston, Massachusetts (from MA VRs), retuned to Ireland by 1877. Died 24 Dec 1908 at Sword, Co. Dublin (from Irish Genealogy). Three children born Co. Dublin: John Joseph Tyrrell, born 4 Apr 1877 at Dublin City, died 24 Dec 1908 at Swords, Co. Dublin; Peter Tyrrell, born Jul-Sep 1878 Co. Dublin; Gilbert Joseph, baptised 14 Dec 1883 at Swords, Co. Dublin.

Gilbert, baptised 4 Dec 1850 at Rochfortbridge (from Roots Ireland), married Catherine O'Reilly Apr-Jun 1878 Co. Dublin, died 22 May 1909 at Ballinsloe, Co. Galway. Had 7 children

Catherine, baptised 2 Apr 1854 at Rochfortbridge

Looking for to confirm the birth/death information on Richard Dowd and Catherine Buckley, as well as any other information on them and those children and their descendants who remained in Ireland.

  • I am a descendant of Gilbert Dowd ( son of Richard Dowd and Catherine Buckley) and Catherine O'Reilly

    of Ballinaslow, County Galway

    Their children, all born in Ballinaslow, were:

    1.  Richard born Nov 21 1879  married Margaret Cosgrove from Lisnaskea, Co. Fermanagh, in 1911 in Roundstone County Galway. They had 6 daughters all born in Roundstone :   

                                        Kathleen 1912 - 2004, Vera 1913(?) - 2011,  Letitia  /my mother)  1916 -1995

                                       Una  1923, Mary Theresa 1924, Eithne1926-2012 

    2. Gilbert, born May 30 1881 

    3. Hubert,  born April 15th 1883 

    4 Martha Georgina, born November 2nd 1884

    5 Letitia Catherine, born July 18th 1886

    6 Thomas, born  January 31st 1888

    7 Henry Francis  born September 15th 1890. died in infancy

    I am a great grand nephew of your ancestor Elizabeth Dowd (and a second cousin of Sheila who has also replied to you).
