Dear Aine,    Thank you for responding so quickly.  I do have birth dates for all children, incl Mary DOB 5 Jul 1857.    Bridget DOB 4 Feb 1863 and DOD 17 Jun 1904 in Brisbane - which would make her dying at 41 yrs even though death cert  indicates that she was 37 yrs.    I was told by a relative that Mary and Bridget came to Aust on "Queen of Nations" dep Plymouth on 14 Jan 1880 (but I can't confirm this).  I don't have any details of journey to England.    I will follow through on your details re other ships and their arrival in Aust.

I only know about Kilbeacanty because of a book written by a Kennedy relative who went in search of Bridget and he tracked her to this area.   Apparently there is a gravestone bearing the name of Catherine Ruane (perhaps Bridget's grandmother?),    It would be helpful if I could find a marriage certificate for Patrick Cleary and Mary Ruane and from there I might be able to get their birth/death  details.

And so the search continues!!!!

I checked the book on the old cemetery by Sharon Diviney (mentioned in history section)

Here is what it says 

Erected by Catherine Ruane in loving memory of her daughter Mary who died 26 march 1896 also Thomas who died August 1900 and Patrick 25 of November 1907 and her husband Michael 19th December (no year)

And his wife 10th of March 1920.

I will write more tomorrow.

Following up on Catherine Ruane.She was Catherine Glynn who married a Michael Ruane .I have not been able to see if this Michael was related to Mary Ruane.

Just a thought regarding your previous post and sorry to impose.    Was the information re Catherine's maiden name from a church record ie marriage record and if so am I able to purchase/obtain a copy of that because that would usually contain parents names for both Catherine and Michael.      Grateful for any help.    Do I appear to be clutching at straws??????

Hi Aine,

The book written by a relative is 'The Irish Kennedys' by Brian Patrick Kennedy.    His ggrandfather Martin Kennedy married Bridget Cleary, whose parents are Patrick and Mary (Ruane), in Brisbane in 1893.  Brian  visited Ireland apparently nearly 20 times and whilst there he went searching for his the gggrandmother's grave and that is mentioned in his book where he talks of Kilbeacanty.    Brian obviously concentrated on the Kennedy side and didn't delve too far into the maternal side of the family.

I came across her maiden name from the baptism certs of the children.I got these along with her marriage cert from rootsireland.ie.It is a pay site .There is no need to pay them as I already have the information which I am happy to share.

Catherine and Michael were married in 1868 and had at least five children

John 1869,Thomas 1871,Michael 1873 ,Patrick 1874 ,Mary 1879.

Date of Marriage is 20 /02/1868 His address is given as Russard and hers as Derreen.He was 30 she was 28

His father was Thomas her father was Denis Glynn. Witnesses were John Reily and Denis Glynn the priest was

Hi Aine and Noreen,

My g-g grandmother was Bridget Glynn nee Ruane her husband was Patrick Glynn.  She lived in Gort on Bolands Lane. 

On the 1901 census, a Michael Ruane and his wife Catherine were also living on Bolands Lane.  I have been trying to determine Bridget's parents and see if Michael was Bridget's brother. Unfortunately Bridget's and Patrick's parents were not recorded on the church marriage record on rootsireland.  I have been trying to get the funeral information from St Colmans for Bridget(she died in Nov 1909)  to see if her parent's names were perhaps recorded there.  No response so far to my email so I will try regular mail next.

I have come across a Bridget Ruane(DOB 1877) married to a Patrick Glynn who had a brother Michael Ruane  but they are much younger than the Bridget Glynn in Boland's lane.

My Bridget Ruane married Patrick Glynn 3 Feb 1856.  They had quite a large family-Mary Ann b 1856, Ellen(my great grandmother) b 1858, John b 1861, Margaret b 1862,  Patrick b 1865, Michael b 1866, Bedelia b 1867, Timothy b 1869(he died as an infant), Bridget b 1870, Agnes b 1871, Robert b 1875.

We know that my great grandmother,  Ellen, came to NY and later her brother Robert also came.  Family lore has Mary Ann going to Australia at the same time Ellen came here.  Margaret never married and later died in Ballinasloe.  John as of the 1911 census was unmarried,  Timothy died in 1869.  But we don't know what happened to the others.

The Michael Ruane, who was living on Bolands Lane, would have been a contemporary of Bridget but other than name and location have nothing to link them.
